About Me
Danish Irish Axel Bernstorff grew up in a creative and artistic house in the Irish countryside, surrounded by his family and other animals. A large collection of costumes in the house, from the 1700 - 1900's led him towards the photography of Cecil Beaton, and the magnificence of haute couture fashion portraiture. This early influence has carried on through his work to various degrees.
In 1997 a period of assisting came to an end after a seven month trip around Saudi Arabia and the Middle East, when it was time to start taking pictures. From then on for the following 15 years Axel has contributed portraiture, fashion and travel to many magazine including Tatler, Italian Elle, Russian Vogue, Town+Country, How To Spend It (FT) CN Traveller and others. The image galleries on this site reflect a strong continuous style of longevity and elegance. He cites a Vanity Fair shoot on the greats of Bollywood, portraits along the Kenyan Great Rift Valley, and a 1780's era costume drama shoot at the magnificent Castletown House, as the most rewarding and memorable shoots he has done.
