About Me

My name is Craig Fry and I have more than 20 years of photography experience. My love for photography took root in high school where I learned basic photography theories and darkroom processing procedures with 35mm films. I later moved into the world of color photography where I began to develop my own shooting style. I also became fascinated with learning as much as I could about manipulating natural and artificial sources of light.
I made the full transition from film to digital photography with the purchase of my first Nikon digital SLR camera. With this transition came the desire to learn all I could about processing and sharing digital images. It has taken some time but I have become proficient with many versions of Photoshop, CS6 being the most recent.

In 2007, I entered the photojournalism field where I was hired by Arizona Western College as the Senior Staff Photographer. I was responsible for photographing, editing, and publishing images for various print and media applications while managing the digital photo storage and archive systems. I also worked with the Public Relations and Marketing Department, as well as the Athletic Department, to provide support for the college’s marketing efforts and publications. Finally, I was tasked to maintain and recommend purchases of camera and studio equipment for the department.

In 2010 I was hired as a photographer at the Yuma Sun newspaper. My daily tasks included capturing feature photographs for the sports, news, business, and Desert Life sections of the newspaper, as well as shooting content for all of the Yuma Sun’s supplemental publications and catching candid moments for “wild art”. In addition to producing quality images for print, I wrote concise and accurate cutlines for all images, scanned loaned photos, and monitored local emergency radio traffic for breaking news.

In June of 2013 the Yuma Sun downsized its staff and I took the opportunity to dedicate myself fully to developing my photography business, DesertFryed Arts, to capture my clients’ stories, emotions, and celebrations of life.
