In literal translation from Japanese AijinNawa is “the rope’s mistress” and she has been conducting her love affair with rope since 2003. Starting out as a rope model opened up a world of blissful meditation, exquisite torment and aesthetic hedony. Having been exposed to a wide range of styles of tying she kept returning to those with natural ropes and with a focus on the process of tying rather than the result. In 2010 she began to learn to tie her own forms heavily influened by Japanese kinbaku and the concept of ki. AijinNawa is purposefully undefined in role and style and hopes to continue to make connection and art via rope.
