About Me

Tara Truss, age 28, born in Honolulu, Hawaii, is a full-time college student majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. Tara is new to the modeling scene but hopes to become an industry name as she embarks upon this new and exciting journey as a plus size model. Having done print and runway, Tara is a multi-talented model who sings, teaches liturgical dance, is trained in classical music (clarinet), and has been in a local stage play musical production (Janet’s Dilemma, 2011). When asked her view on being called a Plus Model instead of just a Model, Tara feels this way: “Society has conditioned us to believe that a number in the back of your dress determines your ability to be fashionable or accepted in the model world. A woman’s body is a work of art that should be celebrated regardless of weight or height. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and I’m just elated to have the opportunity to represent women of all walks of life who may look different or are uncomfortable in their own skin. I accept the title of plus model because I give that woman a voice and hopefully encourage them to walk with confidence and pride. I realize that modeling isn’t just about having a pretty face. It takes hard work, dedication, determination and a little spunk to bring it every time! If Tara could change something about the industry, “I would add diversity. We are all multicultural beings with different backgrounds, body types, hair lengths, styles, skin complexions and more. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so why not show someone who the world can identify with? Things are changing. The average size of the American woman is not a 2 or 4 but a 14! So why are we stressing ourselves out and starving for an unrealistic reality? I wish that more companies would catch the vision and celebrate women… regardless of her size.
