About Me

Living in Light!
First, there was SOUND...

I was born in Montreal. During childhood, we always had music playing in our home, in the car... ...everywhere! I had the chance to grow up with all kind genres such as Soul, Pop, Rock, French, Classical and Blues. Pretty eclectic for a young dude's ears.

I picked up my first guitar when I was fifteen and never put it down. (sorry for the ear wrecking, mom!)

Music was, is, and always will be my first great passion. It helped me socialize at school, exteriorize my emotions, and, most of all, express my creativity.

... and then, there was LIGHT

I was always fascinated by light. Almost obsessed! I drew a lot when I was young and still do from time to time.

Light gives shape to things. It gives colour and depth.

Reproducing what our eyes see, on a piece of paper, takes a lot of patience, observation and talent. I always thought I could never achieve the realism I was looking for in my drawings. Though I got close from time to time, I never was satisfied.

Another form of art that has attracted me since adolescence was photography. The capturing of our reality. The ephemeral moment caught in time forever. (at least until your hard drive crashes!) The spur of spontaneity. The instantaneous telling of a short story.

Again, light is paramount. Your lighting can make, or destroy, a great photo even if the subject is the prettiest girl or the greatest piece of architecture.

The word photography is based on the Greek (photos) "light" and (graphé) "representation by means of lines" or "drawing", together meaning "drawing with light".

I like to think of the world, surrounding us, as a great canvas that, when lighted correctly, can yield the greatest and most amazing images our minds can imagine. Sometimes that light can occur naturally. Sometimes our capturing equipment needs a little help in the form of stobelights, reflectors, gels etc.

That is why knowing how light behaves and what effects it has on our canvas is capital. That knowledge can only be obtained in the form of experience, continuous learning and understanding.

Ive been observing light behaviour since I could pick up a drawing pen and, to this day, I feel I've only begun to learn and understand...
