About Me

For the last three years, Stephanie Corne has been creating her Facemotions portraits in which a person feelings are represented onto the skin. The portraits are composed of a large abstract painting used as a backdrop and a subject painted on. She has worked with people who suffer from the way they look such as people with Vitiligo and Albino and others, making her work a social statement as well as a healing tool for anyone who wishes to participate in her projects. The spiritual aspect of way it means to be a human being is a very important aspect in her artwork.

Her series called the Hara series is an extension of her Facemotions. Hara means the physical embodiment of the original Life center. Here, the entire body is painted. She wants to illustrate the inner landscapes of the creative self and its graceful movements as well as its struggle to exist when repressed, attacked, denied . Her exploration is in collaboration with dancers, musicians and again anyone who is willing to participate in her interpretation of what our creative self in action could look like when in motion.

Stephanie was born on the outskirts of Paris, France. With a textile design degree, she moved to NYC in 1993 where she worked as a set painter, a muralist, decorative finisher and graphic facilitator. Already as a child she felt she expressed herself more accurately with paint than words. Her influences range from the classic masters to abstract expressionism as she sees figurative and abstract worlds as cohabiting realities. She lives with her husband and kids in Brooklyn, NY.
