My name is LaMar Thompson-Hightower (They/Them). I'm a non-binary queergay living in Detroit. I'm an activist, social worker, and artist who uses photography as a medium for storytelling and urban ethnography. I attempt to tell stories to humanize the other. Black, Queer, Fat, Woman, Poor, and other marginalized bodies in the status quo. I hope that people use those stories to not only understand the complexity of the other. But, as a way of staying away from the dangers of a single account. I'm a social worker by education; my joy is to converse about power, privilege, and access to hope to lead to lasting change. Ironically, my inspirations are shit starters like James Baldwin and Marsha P. Johnson. Artistically, I love Aundre Larrow and Andre D. Wagner. Both are a contemporary artist that relies on emotion and environment to tell the stories they capture.
