Hi... my name is Taylor Baldschun. I live in Los Angeles and I am creating a portfolio of people and machines. I love exploring the relationship between humans and technology. This project is just one way of expressing the ideas and themes I'm passionate about. I think we live in a time where technology and the powers that be are just as dangerous and overreaching as they are in the science-fiction novel, 1984. I want to show what it's like to live in today's society where we are too distracted by our phones to acknowledge the world around us. There are so many beautiful, wonderful people on this planet and we are all guilty of failing to see and notice them. We are surrounded by a sick culture of consumerism, sensory overload, vanity, and greed. I am looking for humanity. I am a humanist at heart.

If you would like to be a part of my project you will be the subject. I want to capture a portrait of your humanity. It might be the details of your eyes, your ear lobe, strands of your hair, the texture of your mouth, the shape of your jawline, anything that stands out and represents a fraction of your identity. My vision is to juxtapose the softness of people with harsh images of metal, glass, and machinery. This project is called “Parts of a Whole”.

I think we can all appreciate the opportunity to step back and gain a new perspective on what technology is and where it belongs in our lives. I want to express our need for presence, awareness, and compassion. It is imperative that we maintain the habit of connecting face to face, intimately and honestly. When we connect online there is a great loss, a missed chance to really see someone, because on the internet we are not ourselves.
