My name is Guy Séguin alias Guzzz and this year my project "Visages Éphémères" will be presented in Québec and in Europe. Expositions will take place in the Magdalen Islands at the Galerie Verrerie - La Méduse and Café de la Grave for Québec. Finally, my work will be presented in Cannes, Brussels and at the prestigious Salon des Beaux-Arts at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris.
It’s a privilege to be selected to represent Canada at several exhibitions in Europe. Your financial support will help me to defray the costs of impressions, frames, rights of hanging, transport of the artworks and the insurance.
I thank you in advance for contributing to the success of my project.
My artistic approach
My interest in drawing and photography were the triggers of my artistic inspiration. I remember the first shots of asphalt cracks, stone textures, a craze for the infinitely small.
The ephemeral guides my research. My work is largely inspired by the movements of the abstract Automatists and Expressionists, by the present moment ... the abandonment of the gesture. From this artistic impetus, I realized a photographic series showing the traces left by nature in its passage and then disappear: the ripple of the waves, the imprint of the withdrawal of the sea on the sand, landscapes that change according to the clouds and light. This approach was transposed on canvas and mixed techniques.
My knowledge in scenography, stage techniques, digital imaging technologies and image language; all related to my work as a spokesperson for a Japanese firm for more than twenty years; has proven to be important in the recent evolution of my creative approach.
I have always been fascinated by the look that human beings take on their appearance. For the last two years, I have been working on the project "Visages éphémères", a process of body painting linked to the precise moment of a photographic session. While the canvas - my model - is called to move, to be seen, to glimpse, and still better… have emotions. More than a human body stripped of its artifices, the canvas has a soul, a past, a future and experience brings us to contact its present. In fact, the game is to strip the human of his appearance to let appear his true identity. The expressive use of automation on the body creates spontaneous and unusual textures. The subject freely comes into play.
