I've had a lot of drive-by friend requests lately. I have no desire to be "friends" with people who don't care enough to leave a single comment or tag. If you send me a friend request and don't comment or tag, I'll probably just delete your friend request.

Before you really get started, please be forewarned, some of you will read part of my profile and think, "Wow, this guy sure is full of himself." I'm trying to be straight forward and honest here. I have worked with more models than most photographers here on MM, but I am still somewhat humble - I realize that I am NOT THE BEST (or even close to it). Some photographers here have shot ten or twenty times as many models and make hundreds of thousands of dollars each year shooting amazing photos with models. One day that will be me, but not yet.

With that said, please try to either read all my port, or just look at my photos. If you want to contact me, hoping to work with me, please invest the ten minutes it will take you to read my whole port BEFORE you contact me, because I will assume you have read it, when I reply to any messages or tags.

I like to experiment with creating stuff like this:

WHO I WORK WITH

I am striving to collaborate with serious, passionate, high-quality models, stylists, and makeup artists.

I like to work with models who like to work with me. If you show me that you like to work with me, then I will work with you again and again. (No, that's not a request for blow jobs! lol)

I recently did a test shoot with Dize. She was friendly, fun to work with, had lots of fun herself, and isn't shy. She brought her boyfriend along, and we got some good romantic couple shots. I like the fact that she not only called me before the shoot, but that she was able to voice her feelings about the shoot afterward too (she wasn't too shy or skittish).

When looking at model profiles my primary concerns are how long it's been since the model updated the photos in the gallery on their profile, when they were last active, and what they say in their profile (positive or negative attitude?). It's very important to me that a model has updated her profile recently. I find that models who don't update their profile are too busy to reply to my messages, so I normally won't contact them or try to schedule a shoot with them. It's just a waste of time. This means that if YOU have not added any images to your profile in the last few months, then I have to assume you're just too busy, and you must be getting paid work all the time. If this is the case, you would never have time or a need to test with me. Afterall, if you're getting paid shoots all the time, then your photos are being published all over the place, and you can just post tear sheets on your port.

As far as what physical features I like, there is very little in the world of reality that I actually like. I like PERFECT skin, eyes, lips, noses, chins, hair, hands, breasts, bellies, backs, butts, leggs, and feet. But these things don't exist in the world where we live, so I have to settle for what I can get. Fortunately, there is very little I really dislike. For example, I don't hate fake breasts, though I prefer natural small breasts to large fake ones (if they look fake). I don't hate tattoos either, though I prefer a model to have none (they can always be added by a good makeup artist or body painter, if necessary). I don't hate peircings either, but I am partial to being spared the need to Photoshop a bunch of empty holes, after I get models to remove 23 rings from their ears, nose, lips and eyebrows.

In my opinion a model's suitability comes primarily from her/his attitude and modeling skills more than from physical nature. But to see what physical characteristics I've been looking for lately, just read the next paragraph.

By my images you can see that I work primarily with fit and healthy-looking Caucasian and Hispanic females in their teens and early twenties. This does not mean THEY are my only preference though. In fact, one of the photos (take a guess which one) is a shapely, beautiful Eurasian woman in her late thirties. (She's actually a photographer.) I've also been more interested in working with Asian models lately. I work with babies and even men from time to time, though that is not my joy, and I don't find much pleasure in it (even though I've been told I do well shooting them). Generally I like to shoot fashion, glamor, and fine art portraits, but I like to stretch my horizons, so what you're looking for may be a good fit for me. Just ask.

If you agree to my regular, affordable, hourly rate you get lots of creative control and full-size (print quality) digital copies of your photos, without my watermark. (I'm happy to include my watermark on a second copy of each final image, if you like.) I am no longer providing unmarked images from TFP shoots. Also, paying clients will get larger previews to choose from, and I will Photoshop three images for each hour we shoot together (a 4 hour shoot will produce 12 final images - a 2 hour shoot will produce a half-dozen). If you require makeup, you should have it done before our shoot or bring a makeup artist with you. (I can arrange a good makeup artist if you can't find one.)

If you would like to know more, please check my Web site: http://www.scottvision.com or try my fashion Web site at http://www.ffphotos.com

PAYING CLIENTS - please read below if you are male, appear to be 25 years old or older, are 10 pounds overweight or more, or if you are a newbie who wants to work with me before you have a full gallery of at least 20 good images here on MM.

My hourly rate is VERY reasonable. I have a discounted half-day rate, for those of you who want to get the best pictures possible. If my standard hourly rate shocks you, because you would expect it to be more or less, understand that I feel it is affordable, but not too affordable. Afterall, a wedding photographer charges $1,500 or even $2,000 or more for 6 to 8 hours of shooting. Many fashion photographers are paid $1,500 for a day of shooting (often about 6 hours), and my rate makes my shoots cost about what any other good photographer charges. My rates are based on shooting time and do not include the time I spend after the shoot, working on the images. I will include some basic work on your selected images without an extra charge, but extra work is just that - extra. I suggest sending your final images out to a specialist, because they are likely to improve the images more than I can. While I am a Photoshop Wizard, I am a "young" Wizard, with much to learn from the great masters. See my Photoshop Wizard profile for more info.

As of April 18, 2009 you must credit me for any images you post, even from paid shoots. If you hire me, you must include my name in the credit or label field adjacent to my photos you post on-line. I do not expect that you add my name in your print portfolio, but on-line it's just the right thing to do, where it is an available option (if there is the ability to add a title, credits, or a caption - a title could look something like "Me In Red - photo by Scott Kennelly").

TESTING (Testing is not the same as TFP)

If you would like to test with me, please let me know. Please don't ask to test with me if you are in need of some photos to get started modeling. That is what paid shoots are for. I paid models for the first six months I was shooting models (and I spent thousands of dollars), because I didn't expect them to work with me for free. After all, I was a beginner, just like you. Do not expect any decent photographer to work with you and give you photos for free (TFP) in the beginning. That's not the way things work. Pay someone decent to get you started, and then learn a little more about modeling before you start trying to schedule tests or TFP shoots. The better photographers will shoot with you, even if you're a beginner, if you are willing to pay them. That's the fast track to building a good portfolio, and doing a few paid shoots in the beginning will get you a head start, saving you a few months or even a year or two. Still, you should work with new photographers too, just to get an idea what the difference is between an experienced and new photographer.

So what is "testing" anyway? A test shoot is usually an impromptu shoot with an advanced photographer, who is testing your modeling abilities and getting a closer look at you. Typically the photographer is looking for a model with a style that fits an advertising campaign or something else, like a calendar, image concept for a special portfolio, etc. More importantly it is the model's efforts and abilities that will determine if the test goes well. So sometimes it's more about what the model does than how s/he looks.

There are many types of test shoots. Some photographers are just trying to see if the model will show up at the designated time. Some are just looking to meet good models for potential jobs at another time. Some are seriously interested in creating images right at the test (that's me). I am ALWAYS seriously interested in creating images, even if the shoot is only a test shoot. This is because I LOVE to shoot, and I don't believe I know the model at all until we shoot together for a couple of hours. Consequently, a test shoot with me can be very similar to a TFP shoot, though I would never schedule support staff or a studio for a test shoot.

One last thing . . . test shoots do not normally produce high quality images, so you should not expect any images. Sometimes a photographer is willing to show you some images, let you review some of the images, or even sell you a print or two from a test shoot. Some photographers even charge for test shoots (typically at a discounted rate) and then offer images from the test shoot at a price of $10 or $20 per print. NEVER expect images from a test shoot. That's not what a test shoot is all about. You're much better off looking at it like a test drive in a car. If you like the car you test drive, maybe you'll buy it, and maybe you will go buy a different car, or maybe you will decide not to buy a car at all (which would be like not modeling any more). Think of photographers the same way as you would when you're shopping for anything else (quality, price, availability, etc.), and you'll have a better business perspective. If you go to buy something, and there's a salesman there trying to convince you to buy it, what are they telling you? Does it seem like a bunch of lies? If so, you probably shouldn't buy it. The same goes for photos (and photo shoots). If you get the impression that you're being sold a bill of goods, then you probably are.

Now . . . do I think of models the way I think of cars or other products? Not quite, but many things are similar - reliability, comfort level (are they easy going or high strung and hard to deal with?), ease of use (a car can be easy to drive, and a model can be easy to direct), looks (a car can look sleek and sexy, just like a model). These are all similar characteristics, whether you're selecting a person for a job or a vehicle to get you there.

TFP and Testing

While I have not decided to stop doing TFP (many people have urged me to do so, so I may quit doing the TFP thing all together some time soon - hint, hint), I have decided to limit the amount of TFP that I do, so please don't "expect" me to "just drop everything" to be at your beckon call, because you want a photographer to shoot photos of you - even if you're an agency model with Elite or Ford (something which carries some weight, but also has a tendency to make models feel like something more special than they should).

Over the next few months I will be testing with many more models than I will TFP. This is because I am interested in models for advanced projects, so I will only shoot TFP with a model who works well in a simple test shoot. Consequently, if I've contacted you about testing, I am not offering TFP. I may offer TFP if our test shoot goes well, but I have NO IDEA if that will happen or not. That's up to you.

What do I mean by this? Testing is shooting as an experiment. That is why it is called "testing" afterall. The reason for testing is to see how the model works - to "test" the model's skill or see if the model fits a particular concept. If you schedule a test shoot with me, don't expect anything from me. Do not expect images. I will show up at the scheduled time and place, shoot photos of you, and that's it. I'll let you know how it went after I've had a chance to review the results from our shoot, but you will probably NEVER SEE any of the photos. A test is all about meeting and "trying" a model. This gives the model a chance to meet and try the photographer too.

TFP is different from a test shoot. TFP is where you can expect something more than just the experience (with some potential for more). This is what you can expect from a TFP shoot with me:

1. A gallery of preview images (with preventative watermarks) for you to review and choose your favorites.

2. A second preview gallery of your favorite images with a variety of affects applied to most of them (also with preventative watermarks) for your final review.

3. A handful of finished, print quality photos with my watermark on them (no photos from TFP shoots will be made available without my watermark/logo).

THE WAY I WORK (also please see below - WHAT TO EXPECT)

- No "crew" or "makeup" is provided at the shoot. I shoot you - that's it. (Unless we make other arrangements.)
- 3 to 4 hours of easy, casual shooting in a variety of outdoor locations is a normal shoot.
- In a TFP shoot, the model gets little to no creative control. I will select the location and tell you how to pose, where to pose, and what to wear. For paid shoots, we can work it however you like.
- After the shoot I post a gallery of preview images stamped with a warning not to post them anywhere - you choose your favorites from these. Your final images will be those which I choose from your final selection. (If you want all of the photos you pick, then you can limit your selection to a half-dozen, and I'll work on them all.) They will be Photoshopped and "enhanced" with my name across them. I do not photoshop a large number of images from TFP shoots for free.

Watch the video on this page to see a professional photographer shooting fashion. This is much the way I work, but I don't have assistants. They either don't show up or they cost too much. Besides, unless I'm working on a big production, I don't need them, so why involve more people?

TFP - What I Expect Of YOU

- Your number (seriously, I expect you to give me your number - mine is 954.632.2649) - if you don't feel comfortable enough with me to talk to me on the phone, there's no way I'm going to even attempt scheduling a shoot with you. Get real, and get over yourself. Professionals who are not at the level of having an agent MUST keep in contact with potential clients (photographers and such), and that means a phone number. What is it, GOLD? Don't be silly - give out your number freely. It's on every business card you will be handing out to strangers anyway, right?
- Your best effort (prepare for the shoot - call me half an hour to an hour before the shoot - do your nails with a natural look and make sure your hair looks good - get plenty to eat and sleep the night before - be on time to the shoot - show me you're serious about modeling at the shoot by following directions thoughtfully and carefully, not complaining about the cold or heat, and trying your hardest to pose or move as directed - be helpful - bring "extra" stuff to the shoot, like props such as an umbrella, hand bag, hat or or cane - do your makeup as directed and be sure to bring a hair brush with you - cut the tags out of your outfits, so there aren't tags sticking out or showing through in the photos, because it can sometimes be VERY difficult to Photoshop these out of the pictures)
- Breakfast, lunch or dinner - seriously, I'm a starving artist, and when you feed me, I perform better.
- $20 for the Scott Kennelly Gasoline Replenishment Fund.
- Credit for photos you post - yes, my name will already be on them, but I expect you to link them to me too.
- Feed-back - I would like some communication from you after delivering your final images (positive OR negative).

LESS THAN 100 SHOOTS?
IF YOU HAVE DONE JUST A HANDFUL OF SHOOTS PLEASE READ BELOW

Newbie photographers and clients (such as advertising agencies or other promotion businesses) hire models. Usually they hire "agency" models, indirectly through the agencies. Agency models usually get paid by check, from their agency, about 90 days after the shoot, when the client pays and after the agency takes their cut. Glamor and nude models often receive payment immediately, especially when posing for newbie photographers who are trying to build portfolios or work on a "project" (GWCs - old men trying to get some jollies by shooting photos of sexy girls - fall into this realm sometimes too). Obviously I'm not a newbie photographer. This means that if I've contacted you about shooting, you should be flattered that I'm interested, not expecting to get paid for working with me. If I've offered to work with you, suggested that we should shoot together, or otherwise mentioned shooting you, it means I do not expect YOU to pay ME either. General etiquette here in Model Mayhem dictates that since this is basically a TFP site, most of the shoots arranged here will be done on a TFP basis, so NO MONEY will change hands. In my case, there is an exception (I need to get to and from the shoot, so I need gas - you can meet me at a gas station if you only have a credit card). This is like an expense reimbursement, just like the kit fee that makeup artists often charge.

NEW MODELS - It is unlikely, but possible that I will schedule TFP with you, but only after we do a test shoot. (I need to be impressed.) Tag me, and I'll review your port. If I like what I see, I'll not only tag back, but I will most-likely send a message with some type of proposal too. Sometimes I am willing to offer my assistance to an extra beautiful, local model who is just getting started. As a policy I will shoot a series of TFP shoots after we do a successful test shoot. After the TFP shoots I will create a gallery of the very best images from our shoots, and the model can pick her favorites from that gallery. By doing multiple shoots with the same model over a few days, I find that I'm able to achieve much better results, helping the model learn more, and producing images worthy of my portfolio.

F.A.Q.

Q. What should I bring to a test shoot with you?
A. Bring a variety of outfits, from a long evening dress, to a couple of swimsuits.

Q. How should I prepare?
A. Wear your hair like you normally do (do not change the style or color just before our shoot), wear your makeup natural, like you would on a date, and have a French manicure a day or two before the shoot. You should make sure you have waxed or shaved the day before if we are shooting in the morning, or the morning of the shoot, if we're shooting in the afternoon.

Q. Who do you "test" with?
A. I test with experienced and inexperienced models alike. You need to look young (15 to 25) and be in reasonably good shape. Height and breast size is of little concern to me. Skin and hair color is also of little concern to me. I will test with you if you catch my eye with something you say/write or one of your images.

Q. Some photographers make images from test shoots available for purchase. Do you?
A. No. (There may be an exception some time, but don't hold your breath.)

Q. Why do you "test" with models before scheduling TFP shoots with them?
A. It's a question of faith. Do you have faith in yourself? Do you really want to work with me? If you're unwilling to test with me, then you probably just want some photos for your portfolio and don't really care about working with me. If that's your attitude, then we're not likely to get good photos anyway. If you believe that you'll do well, and that I am good enough to capture your beauty, then you'll have no problem believing that we'll work well together. For those of you who feel this way, this question is unnecessary, because you already want to work with me, even if it's only a test shoot.

Q. I am curious to know before I dedicate 3-4 hours of my time with you and nothing in return, are you seriously planning to do anything with me other than just a 'test' shoot?
A. First, you are not getting "nothing in return" for your time. If you spend 3-4 hours with me, you are getting 3-4 hours of professional instruction from an advanced photographer. I will direct you in detail, help you understand what looks good and why, and teach you much more about modeling than you already know. Second, I have absolutely NO IDEA if I will want to work with you again. That depends on your attitude and performance at our shoot. If your attitude is good and you are making an obvious effort, I will most-likely get a few good images and decide to schedule a TFP shoot with you. If I decide not to work with you again, it's probably because you are either uncooperative, don't listen, or have way to many flaws to be considered good model material. If all you want is some new photos for your port, and you're not ready to put forth some effort, and you don't care about gaining experience or learning what I can teach you, then please don't schedule a test with me. If you believe that your current photos show you in a way that is untruthful or a complete lie, then you should probably avoid scheduling a test with me, because if you've gained twenty pounds since posting your last photo, or you have five new tattoos, then I am unlikely to be "happy with you" as model material, and I am unlikely to schedule a TFP shoot with you. On the other hand, if you have a good attitude and your photos are the real you, then you probably don't have much to worry about. Test shoots are for filtering out the fakers and negative people. I find that models typically enjoy working with me, try hard, and produce some good images even at our test shoot. If that's the case with you, then we are likely to get together for a TFP shoot within a few days or weeks after our test. On occasion a model flakes after our test, and we never get it together again. Such models don't want my photos in their portfolio anyway, so there is nothing to worry about there. Finally, in the event you feel that it would be a complete waste of your time to work with a photographer if you aren't getting photos or cash, then you are either full of yourself or so new that you don't realize yet that working with a high-end photographer is a priviledge granted by the photographer to a special few models. I don't have time to work with every model. There are thousands of you out there. I can only work with a few hundred each year. I must be selective. Remember, many good photographers will not work with you unless YOU pay THEM. I am one of the few who actually does offer TFP to a wide range of models. If I have offered to test with you, feel happy about it. I would not normally TFP with you. I am giving you a chance to work with me and show me that you can produce a good image with me. That's what it's all about afterall - one good image for my portfolio. Do you think you can do it?

Q. Why won't you give me un-edited or RAW images from a TFP shoot?
A. TFP is a shoot that I hope to get some benefit from, which is not financial payment, since you will not be paying me. Consequently, it makes no sense for me to just shoot with you for free. Therefore, I put my logo on the images and hope you will place one or two of my images on your profile. (Most models who work with me use one of my photos as their main profile image. Presumably this is because it is the best photo they have. I don't think it's because they have a crush on me.) I also hope to make an exceptional photo with you . . . something so good that I am willing to add it to one of my portfolios. This is very rare, so please don't expect this, even if I'm willing to TFP with you. Normally, I only post a few new images each year, but I do dozens of TFP shoots each year.

Q. Why do you put all this stuff in your profile here?
A. Much of what I put here is assumed by the more professional models, because most of what I do and the way I work is normal for professional photographers, but since I don't know who is going to be reading this, I have to put a bunch of information here that will help the beginner models understand the way things work in the modeling world (and with me specifically). To some it may seem like I have an attitude, and that attitude may seem like I push my models to do things they don't want to do. Well, I DO PUSH MY MODELS. I don't push them to have sex with me (In fact, you might find this hard to believe, but I've NEVER even been given a hand job by a model, let alone a blow job or f**ked any of my models. I try to keep it as professional as possible.), but I push my models to open up and be REAL MODELS that perform like professional models. That means that if I think you should be wearing that shirt without a bra, I'll ask you to take off the bra. If I think your underwear will show through, I'll tell you to take off the underwear, etc. I don't have to push the pros, because they already understand these things, and they act like professional models, wearing things the way a real model does, and posing the way a real model poses. With many of the beginners I've worked with, the photos I make with them are the best in their portfolio for a reason . . . because I push them to go further and perform better than anyone ever has before. I like to work with models who are ready to push the envelope. If you don't want to push your limits, and get the best, sexiest, most amazing images ever, then you shouldn't work with me. I won't enjoy working with you if you're too shy or act like a primadonna, and you won't enjoy working with me, because I'll be over your antics/drama in about five minutes, and the results will show that.

Q. So let me get this straight . . . you like to push models beyond their limits? Does this mean you won't respect my limits?
A. LIMITS? Are we going to think outside the box, or are you stuck in the box, unwilling to explore what lies beyond? Basically my answer to this question is simply that I will respect YOU, but not your LIMITS. I have NO RESPECT for LIMITS. Limits are limiting, and I HATE to be limited in my creativity. Does this mean that I'll be asking you to take off all your clothes, turn around, bend over, and spread your ass cheeks for my camera? NO! If you tell me you want to shoot porn, I have a friend you should speak to, but photos like that are not what I'm after. Do you see anything even REMOTELY like that in my port here? How about in my Angels In The Flesh port? No, right? Well then you shouldn't be worried about me trying to get you to shoot porn, because I'm not that guy.

Q. Where do you come from?
A. Australia, but I grew up in south Florida.

Q. What type of camera do you use?
A. Does it really matter? Do you think my photos came out of thin air? If you like what you see, what difference does in make whether I use a pin-hole camera, a 35mm SLR, a rangefinder, a medium format digital, or a point-and-shoot?

Q. Will you "Photoshop" images for me?
A. I will use Photoshop to place my logo on them, but other than that there will probably be no need for me to use Photoshop. In some cases, I shoot with the specific intent of using Photoshop to make changes to the photo later, so I may do lots of Photoshop work to an image (see some of the images in my Hard Reality profile), but do not expect me to make you look like a plastic doll. I don't do that. In my opinion satin is for covering beds and pillows, making wedding dresses, and lining hats, so I try to avoid making someone's skin look like satin (unnatural).

Q. Have you been published?
A. Nationwide baby!

Q. I'm not clear about the whole TFP thing with you. How does it work again?
A. Unless you're a serious, professional model, with a serious Web presence (like a full V.I.P. profile or your own web site, like www.makaylagoings.com) or tear sheets from the pages of Vogue, Maxim, etc. then TFP with me will only happen if we've shot before. That means you have to work with me first, and if we work well together, I will consider scheduling a TFP shoot with you. One way to work with me for the first time is to schedule a test shoot (that's TEST shoot). At a test shoot, we will get a chance to meet and try out each other's abilities. If you like the way we work together, I'll see that. If I like the way we work together, I'll let you know. If we get some good results, I may suggest we schedule a TFP shoot. If you are a professional model and you have a professional portfolio, then I may offer to work with you. I am most likely offering TFP on our first shoot. Do not expect this if you have 9 photos in your portfolio (unless they were shot by Philipe, RRPIX, Ward, Dax, Andre Rowe, Brad Miller, Jon Barry, Michael Rosen, Jeffrey Scott, or photographers at the same level).

Q. Do you charge for testing?
A. No. Currently, I am not charging for test shoots, like some photographers do.

Q. Why can't I have my favorite photos without your logo or water-mark across them?
A. Obviously you're talking about a TFP shoot. The fact is, you CAN have photos with no logo or watermark on them. Just pay for a shoot with me (one hour is all it takes), and I'm happy to give you photos without my watermark on them. If you can't afford to pay me, or if you don't WANT to pay me, then YOU SHOULD BE HAPPY TO HAVE MY LOGO ACROSS YOUR PHOTOS. Here's why I put it on there.
- A logo is an advertising tool. If I am shooting, I need to get paid. If I can't get paid cash, then I need to get some advertising out of it. Don't think that giving me credit in the credits section is just as good as me having my logo on an image. It isn't. And paid shoots require that credit anyway!
- If you are not paying me, how can you expect me to give you exactly the same thing as I would give you if you DID pay me? That's absurd.
- My logo is big, and that's for two reasons: 1) It needs to be very visible, or someone might not see it, and 2) It needs to be placed in a way that a model can not easily just crop it out of the image. Why? Because some models do that type of thing. Maybe you wouldn't, but I've seen it done, and the way I mark MY images helps prevent this type of thing from happening.

Q. But I need photos that don't have your logo on them for my comp card. What about that?
A. Pay for a shoot. It costs about the same as those shoes you just bought, or that dress you want, and those photos will be around for a long, long time. Even when you're an old fart, and you don't have ANYTHING else that you bought this year, you'll still have these photos.

Q. Do you charge for TFP shoots?
A. Then it wouldn't be a TFP shoot, would it?

Q. Why don't you allow escorts?
A. Because I don't have one, so it isn't fair if you bring one! Seriously, escorts are a problem not only for you, but for me too. (Not always, but most of the time.) They prevent models from getting to their shoots, because they cancel. (This has happend more than once in the past, when I allowed escorts.) They can be a distraction - not just to the model, but to me. They are unnecessary. (If you think you need an escort to model for me, then you are sorely mistaken, and I take offense to your insulting distrust.) Ultimately, if you are so uncomfortable coming to my shoot without your "escort" to save you from my viscious attacks, then you can wear body armor and bring a gun. I don't mind, seriously! Just don't bring your boyfriend, parents (unless you're under 18), uncle, brother, sister, best friend, dog, or any other distraction for me to deal with. It's not cool, and it's not professional. (Would you bring an "escort" to work with you? How about to a job interview?)

A LITTLE MORE INFO. - my phone number (again) 954.632.2649

I have no need for escorts, and when you're working with me neither do you. Please don't waste your time and mine talking about them. If you're the type of person who "needs" an "escort" then my best guess is that you must be a minor (or a beginner). If you have not yet reached 18 years of age, then I expect you to be accompanied by at least one of your parents (not a friend or sibling) when we meet for our shoot. If you do not arrive with a parent, then our shoot will be a bust, and I will not reschedule with you. If you are not a minor, and you arrive with an "escort" to our shoot, then I will have you send them away.

For me, this is a one-on-one sport. Oh, sometimes two-on-one, sure. But most of my photos here were just me and my model(s). No "team" of creatives working together. I guess I'm just not much of a "team player." I prefer to work privately. I find that sharing intimate feelings and working with comfortable models is the best way to capture beautiful images. I like to have my models' undivided attention, so I can develop a deeper understanding of them as we work together. This has been working for me for quite some time now. Consequently, I have become inflexible regarding this. Please do not expect me to "make an exception" for you, if you can't "make an exception" for me.

That said, I am not totally opposed to the idea of working with more than one or two people. In fact, there have been times where I worked with a makeup artist, a stylist, an art director, lighting assistants, and other photographers even! Just don't expect me to "need" a team of people to create amazing images. It really isn't necessary. I often shoot with no particular theme, no preconceived "artistic vision" in my head, and no good idea of what I will be doing. I am flexible and spontaneous. All I need is a willing participant, and a good location, and we can make something special - spectacular even. I'm one of those people who believes you never know what you'll find until you get there, and you can NEVER be fully prepared, so you ALWAYS have to wing it. That's just the way of things, so I've become one who can "go with the flow" and take advantage of what nature sends me.

Enough about ME. What about you? Your story is important, and I will read your port, look at your photos, visit your Web site, and send you a friend request if I like what I see. Don't be surprised if I give you some free advice or make a comment on one of your photos. That's what this site is all about, isn't it?

WHAT TO EXPECT at a shoot with me:

I will shoot photos of you. No kidding. That's about it. No makeup (that's up to you). No wardrobe or fashion stylist (that's up to you too). Hair? Please . . . Maybe you can tell, and maybe you can't, but my photos are pretty natural. The models did the makeup themselves, the light comes from the Sun, and I normally don't even use reflectors. I don't like them. I don't like lights either (though on occasion I do use them). My camera is BIG, so don't be surprised when it looks like a long-haired paparazzi is walking up to you. It's just me.

Oh, I may (probably will) give you some instruction, guiding you into place, selecting the correct angle for you to pose, and helping you help me get the best shots we can. If you don't know your left from your right, please practice before you arrive. I will refer to your left and right MANY times during our shoot. It will also help you to know the difference between turn, tilt, and move.

I have a Web site for models to learn about modeling. It's a good resource. Here is a little information that will help you if you're new.

Advice for "new" models:

1.) Read the messages you get, and don't assume that you'll be expected to do something that is not discussed.

2.) Don't ask if there is going to be a makeup artist. (You're not at that level yet.) If you want to have a makeup artist, ask if it's alright for you to bring one with you, but it is insulting to some photographers for you to ask if there is going to be a makeup artist, especially if the photographer is offering their services to you for free. It implies that you either don't know how to do your own makeup or that you expect the photographer to provide a makeup artist, which costs money (they almost never show up if they are scheduled for TFP).

3.) If you aren't eager to work with a particular photographer, don't schedule with them. If you are eager, don't ask a bunch of unnecessary questions. It makes the photographer feel like you are looking for excuses to not schedule or to "get out" of shooting with them. Be happy they are willing to work with you, and just get the scheduled time set. If they are from out of your area, you can ask them if they're coming to your town, but if not, just wait until they let you know where the shoot is going to be. Believe me, only an idiot would schedule a shoot with you and then never tell you where to meet them. If they are that stupid, you don't want to shoot with them anyway.

4.) Give the photographer your cell phone number as soon as the two of you agree to shoot together. It's important they feel comfortable with you, just as it's important you feel comfortable with them. If you give them your phone number, it will be a sign of good faith, and they will most-likely give you their phone number. Then you should call them and have a phone conversation with them, just to hear how they sound on the phone and make sure they gave you the right number. It really makes a photographer feel good if a model calls to say hi. (It's a very rare thing, and if you're unusual like that, they will appreciate it.)

5.) Post photos that represent the type of work you want to get bookked for. A statement like, "I require payment for IMPLIED." Doesn't make sense if you have no implied images in your port, does it? I mean, how is that SELLING your excellent ability to pose for implied nudes? One image doesn't sell "expert skills" either. You should have at least two or three of what you hope to shoot the most (especially if you expect to be paid for it).

6. DON'T BE STUCK UP! Seriously, if you act like you're "all that" and you come across like your shit don't stink, then people will shy away from you. This applies to shyness too. I can't tell you how many "new" models seem to think their tits are made of gold or something. It's as if they think that showing them would end the world. You are a WOMAN. You have breasts. Everyone know this. If you're going to model, seriously, you need to let them be seen. Do you think you're above that or something? SUPER MODELS POSE TOPLESS ALL THE TIME. Is it o.k. for supermodels, but not good enough for you? I don't think so. Get over yourself, and let your breasts do what they do best - look beautiful. Not only will that show that you're not too shy to be a model, but it will show that you actually believe you are as beautiful as you are, rather than being afraid that someone might judge you as being not beautiful enough, because of your breasts. And for those of you with spectacular breasts, if you refuse to show them, well, that's just silly. There's no real reason you can't show your beautiful breasts, just like Gia Carangi, Madonna, Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, Tyra Banks, Elle Macpherson, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Gisele Bündchen, Heidi Klum, and Milla Jovovich (now more of a movie star). Showing bare breasts is normal for real models, so should it be for you, if you're serious about modeling.

7. THIS IS PROBABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT ADVICE I CAN GIVE YOU. If you're a model, and you have a decent head shot, use that as your main image. A shot of you looking like a stick figure in the distance will just get you passed over, as photographers and others look through search results. The photo might make your body look good, when you see it large, but if the photo isn't engaging, then WAY less people will ever visit your portfolio. For photographers it's opposite. Photographers need to show something unusual and unique, or people really won't care when they see the image. It's fine for you to have weird and wonderful photos in your port, but don't make those your main image. Your main image has to be YOU - your face . . . or if you don't have a good face, but you have a spectacular ass or tits, then show them, close-up. Seriously, your face or your best feature are what will get people to visit your portfolio and take a look at your gallery.

Visit HelpForModels.com for more. There are some good articles there, and there is an excellent list of links to modeling resources all over the Web, including info. about makeup, agencies, etc.

And remember this, if you want to be a Jedi model:

"Do or do not. There is no try." - Yoda

If you're a model who has ever considered working as a fine art nude subject, or if you'd just like to see what it's like, you should take a look at a behind-the-scenes video of a fine art nude shoot.

. . . I just watched a video linked in a bulletin by Katy T (MM#11311)

http://salhuana.smugmug.com/gallery/722 … 8596_tSe4g

password: vienna

She is one of the most accomplished models in her field, traveling all over the world. I actually bought a print of her from a photographer years ago, and one day I hope to work with her in the studio and out in a forest.

One thing you should notice from the video linked above is her posing and the way some parts of her body look. This video is a good example of a high-end fine art nude shoot, and it shows that NOBODY looks perfect in every pose.

PHOTOGRAPHERS

I've recently created a Web site that has some good info. about photography. Take a read at one of my latest articles:

http://imaging.scottvision.com/article-lenstech.html

Finally, if you're a photographer in the north Georgia, South Carolina, or south-eastern North Carolina area, you should shoot with a model from that area. Her name is Victoria Morgan, and she is one of the most amazing models I've ever worked with. This is her (below).

If you have questions feel free to call me - 954-632-2649

(If you're wondering why I have my number posted in so many places, it's because I actually get models who say they couldn't find my phone number, even though it's on every page of my Web site and all over my profile here.)

O.K. Finally you're at the end. Do you think I should win the award for the most obnoxiously long profile? I do. Sorry, but I didn't think you'd visit pages of information on my Web site if I just placed links here, and much of the information above is really important for many of you.
