About Me

John McMahon: Comic-Slash-Actor-Slash-Model

Born and raised in Michigan, John was drawn to standup comedy at the tender age of six. John memorized the routines of great comics of the era, repeating them incessantly. His parents, not recognizing this obvious cry for help, simply avoided him, causing feelings of alienation that all but assured John's future in show business.

At the suggestion of his parents, (i.e., threats of being disowned), John took a slight detour on the road to comic-stardom and earned a degree in mechanical engineering (with minors in electrical and computer engineering) from the University of Michigan, at Ann Arbor. While earning a degree did not help John toward his goal of performing in comedy, it did shore up his nerd credentials for a future in comedy writing.

After graduation, John moved to Southern California to pursue his dreams of becoming an actor. Unfortunately, while John possessed the talent and burning desire to entertain, he did not possess a map. John moved to sunny Santa Barbara- 100 miles North of Los Angeles… which, he later found out, was a three hour commute in Southern California traffic… which made it impossible to audition. His move to California wasn't a total waste though- he did learn to surf, landed a non-speaking extra roll on Will & Grace, and discovered kim chi.

After 8 short months, John returned to Michigan to design engines for Ford. Designing car parts isn't nearly as exciting as it sounds, so John moved into fashion and began planning stores for the fashion giant, Express. And while John enjoys both pants and glitter, he soon found that the world of fashion, too, left him yearning for the stage.

John left Express and began studying at the Second City in Los Angeles, where he participated in several hour-long revues and Second City JAMs.

Called "engaging and enjoyable" by comic legend George Carlin and "very talented... makes me laugh" by former child-star and ex-Partridge Danny Bonaduce, John has performed in venues in Los Angeles and Detroit… and has also starred in countless home movies and makes appearances in numerous family photos. John is currently performing with Iowa's premier improv troupe, Comics in Action.

When not working or performing, John can be found: trying to get photographs of the elusive Baby Suri, trying to find the real killers, and drawing pictures of Ellen Degeneres... but not TOO many- he's not trying to creep her out or anything... but definitely a few... let's say he's created somewhere in the neighborhood of between 4 and 73- closer to 73. OK- it was 75.

As if all this weren't enough: John is currently trying to expand his career into the realm of modeling.  Available for TCD.
