Christopher Bush wrote: no one has pointed out yet, that besides the rent being expensive, you pay a socialist tax rate. i wouldn't recommend living in the city unless you're pulling in about $70k. It's a lot better than living in Jersey and working in NY. Paying taxes for all those different places is just stupid.

But I just can't right now give up my >$700 place with room for a 12x24 ish studio and a view of the Empire State Building. Everybody always gets into the Manhattan vs. Brooklyn fight, and I sit back sipping....some sort of Greek beer in Queens.

Seriously! What's with the place that installed lights in the sidewalk? Where do they think they are? I'd much rather go have a PBR and play Galaga at Welcome to the Johnsons.

Is there room in NYC for a Midwestern boy like myself to fit in? If I simply packed up my bags and flew to LaGuardia, looked for an apartment in Manhattan... What would my chances of survival be? Honestly?

Honestly? you'll be one of those guys that wanders into a subway car and tells the rush hour crowd that you are actually homeless and just want to get a good meal (booze), while everyone looks at the floor except for that one stupid tourist.... but seriously, get setup ahead of time.

Brian, just tell 'em about the tiramisu in Astoria. That should make the decision clear! ;-)

It was like being in a jail cell looking at those damn skylines!!! Screw the skyline live amongst the chaos! You won't regret it Look at www.craigslist.org for apt sublets and shares and for job openings. This is the most used website in NYC and it found me the greatest roomie of my life and it has also secured my friends a lot of jobs. Check it out! Good luck with your move. I would recommend living in the East Village or Lower East Side shares run anywhere from 700 to 900 per month. Which is great since you don't need a car and it's near the subway D Thank you for the info! I know that it wasn't directed to me, but I myself will look into your recommendations. On top of the potentially helpful advice, you are also a 'friend' of mine! Thank you once again!

New Jersey is where New York stores our sports teams until we build some new stadiums here The only reason why They are still the NY whatever and not the NJ whatever is most of the idiots in the country have no clue where NJ is. If you asked people "How many football teams does New York have?" they will tell you "Two!" Of course that would mean that Buffalo is it's own state now.......
