I picked up a Canon 20D today.  Was previously shooting with a Digital Rebel which I didnt have any problems with but me and the wife who is also into photography arent good at sharing! smile

So I bought the 20D.  My lenses and accessories fit so It was my best deal in the price range.

As far as image quality and functions compared to the rebel...  maybe a little better but no super impressive advantages over the rebel.  I deffinetly liked the button configuration on the rebel.  Aperature changes are a bit lame on the 20d.

Here it is:

Ran out with it real quick and snapped a few shots...  Do dogs count as models?  smile

I've never held the Rebel so I don't know what the knobs are configured like. I have the 10D and the 20D and both are identical with the exception of the on/off switch and the joystick.

I really like the 20D for speed, but the total image size I liked the 10D cause I didn't have to crop to print at 8x12.

From the top image, it looks like your shooting in Manual which should make adjusting the Aperature the same on the Canon's

The second photo of the dog seems nice, but there seems to be a hint of camera shake, and underexposure.

I was going to say out of focus, the branch on the far left seems to be the focal point and the lens is the 28-135 IS, so camera shake should be at a minimum if any.

This makes no sense at all. Both should have a 2:3 aspect ratio.

As for setting the aperture value, I prefer the 20D over the Rebel. I sure as hell prefer the 20D for manual exposure mode.

I have no such lens!  smile  I do have a 17-85 IS tho and I used that for the 1st and 3rd shot.  The second was a cheapy 75-300 and looks a little underexposed because I was using a ND filter for the water shots and just never took it off.

The apperature change is a lot different with the 20d compared to the rebel.  Maybe Its just because Im not used to it yet but I liked the controls and button placement a lot more on the rebel.

Try using CF 4:1  I have had all my cameras set up like that since I switched to Canon in 1996..

Much more control over the focus of the camera...

I have the RebelXT and I can use a 20D through work and a markII if I really needed it.

Personally I still like the way the layout is on the XT

also, the one thing I don't like about the 20D is that I cannot use my remote to trigger the camera.

I did some camera comparison today between the 300d (digital rebel) and the new 20d.  Was mainly a test to see if they differed in quality at different ISo levels.

Both were tested with the kit lens...  A canon efs 18-55 (Aperture 10).  All shots where shot at what the camera considered "correct exposure".

This first one is the 300d shot with a 100 ISO.

The 20d at 100 ISO

At 100 ISO there doesnt seem to be much difference at all in the quality of the shots.

Next I shot at a 400 ISO

Now at 400 im noticing a clearer image with the 20d.  Also appears that the 20d did a better job with selecting the proper white balance.

This is the 300d at a 1600 ISO

And the 20d

Again slightly better performance at higher ISO with the 20 but both are showing a little noise.

This is just an extra...  Shot with the 20d using my efs 18-85 IS and using a bounce flash from the 430ex.
