"fotografieren" works simply enough, as does "aufnehmen," which I believe literally translates into "off-taking" - in Polish, the word "zdjecie" means a "taking off," as if you're taking a copy of reality... thought this was sort of poetic. But more than all of that, I'm just afraid I'll get The Pounce for being didactic in any way.
