Griffith Observatory is good but you need a permit so leave the gear at home. Look like an amateur. Disney Hall is another. Again, leave the gear home.

The Desert out in Lucerne Valley is also cool.

what are good spots ins Lucerne Valley?

The Dry Lake Bed and abandoned houses on Barstow Rd. Google "Old woman Springs Rd and Barstow Rd in Lucerne" and you'll see it. Head up Barstow Rd. Abandoned house on left about 1/4 mile. Lake Bed entrance further up on left at marker 29.

There's gold in them thar hills!

Go to the mountains near Pasadena, Arcadia, Monrovia.  Streams, rocks, trees.  Rare in So.Cal.  Go mid week.

Wow!  Ancient history -- but Connery posted THE list of places in LA!  I would've just said take a drive up the coast to Pt. Mugu.

Barstow Road lays flat on the earth, it doesn't go 'up'.

scratch that... Barstow Road actually does have an uphill incline going north from Lucerne Valley into Barstow, so i guess you could say go "up" Barstow Road...

yes, totally pointless, i know...

Hehe thankfully this post was revived. Can finally subscribe.

I'll add a bit as well, if you want graffiti backdrops or that hipster vibe which seems to be the in thing right now, DTLA near the fashion disctrict has a lot of interesting areas. I'm sure permits are required, but if its just you and a model, just try to look amateurish and make do with little.
