So there appear to be a lot of girls on MM who are below the necessary height for fashion models and yet are still putting money in the bank with their modeling at a fairly impressive rate. Therefore, I was interested in starting an informal and extremely unscientific survey!
"Short" models, please list 1) your main modeling source of income (promotional/trade shows, commercial work for an agency, paysite, artistic nude modeling -- for an art class or for a photographer, porn,...?!) and 2) if it's your full-time income
Then the rest of us will know how to get rich quick, hehe smile

My regular paycheck comes from my full-time "real world" job.  Not modeling.

The only short models that I know who are earning a good, constant amount of money are all art nude models, and they work their asses off. Every day it's a shoot.

If you're working or at college at our height, best stick to that and keep modeling as a fun hobby that might give you a nice bit of extra bob on the side to buy yourself something nice with smile

All the shorter models I know do fetish or art nude or glamour work. They work their asses off marketing though and travel A LOT

Figure modeling. Mostly for photographers, but I used to regular in art classes and have been hired by artists for drawings or paintings. I've also done a small amount or erotic and glamour work, and some fetish here and there.
And in order to keep working, you have to keep traveling and/or living in a city with a good market for it.
And pay depends on the shoot, the photographer, the area, and how much you have booked during that period. Sometimes a model will be booked all day everyday for a period of time (pay is good, but damn its tiring) and sometimes will go days or weeks without anything at all.
This is not a get rich quick scheme, and if you're just doing it for cash, you might want to find a new hobby.

The best paid model I know of who does nudes and art and a bit of commercial is in the 50k a year range.

My best year as a figure model was in the 15k a year range, I did not travel very much.

If your rent is 500 a month that is great, if it is 1500 a month not so good...

Many things need to be factored in.,

Yay! Thanks to all the models for answering, you're all so resourceful smile I'm definitely in the camp that makes the bulk of my living money through... not modeling, hehe. I think I wrote my question badly, what I meant to ask is -- where do you get the majority of your modeling money?! (So, whether it's a little or a lot... where does it come from? Commercial, promotions, etc?)

1) Getting naked for photographers, sculptors, painters, etc. Not always art, some fetish and erotic work as well.

2) No thanks.

I do some promotional work here and there, have modeled for some workshops, and get a few odd paying jobs here and there from new photographers looking to build their portfolio.

I will not disclose how much I make though.

Regarding promo work, thru 2006-2007 I booked a lot of models for alcohol promos.  For many of them promo work was their job & those who busted their asses on LOTS of gigs & stayed 110% pro (on time, always showed, prepped, etc) made decent $.  Most did it part time around school tho & either lived at home or with a husband/bf who paid most bills.

Right now budgets for such things have been slashed dramatically & there's not nearly as much work & it pays less.  The economy's hitting a lot of other areas, too.  For instance a major fetish producer here has shaved $100-$200 per session off their rates and a number of models I know who were booking central Florida work or who could expect to travel here & pick up nude shoots are now finding out they can't get enough paid work to justify it.

On top of that there's more & more competition for the shrinking dollars out there... a LOT of women are jumping in to this (especially on the nude/adult fetish end) thinking it's a "get rich quick scheme" in hard times.  One lady here posted in Newbie the other day literally saying "I'm a housewife in my 30's with 3 kids & I haven't modeled since I was a teen but my husband's out of work so I'll do nudes, fetish, whatever, to bring some $ in."

So jumping in right now looking to making a living at it will be TOUGH.  Busting your butt to do a lot of promo work and combining it with nude & fetish can work but you're gonna have to be super professional & diligent, and market the hell out of yourself.

The only non-industry-standard models I know who make a good living from it, do porn. But I wouldn't suggest going that route unless it's something you really want and enjoy. If you don't enjoy it, it'll be a quick buck then you're out the door.

Again, this only applies to what I've seen personally. It's not a generalization.

1) Fine Art Nudes with various photographers, though most shoots are TF*. I have a hopeful paid shoot of $275 later this summer.

2) It is SO not my main source of income, not yet anyways. I have my job, then I have my portrait drawing business (rakes in about $50 a week), THEN if I get lucky I get paid for a shoot.

Oh... just wanted to clarify... when I said "get rich quick", I was just kidding. smile Don't worry, I'd definitely pick something that had a higher margin of money-making success than modeling!! Didn't mean to offend to anyone who took it seriously sad

I don't think it was offense so much as that we HAVE seen an influx of girls lately who seem to BELIEVE it's a way to get rich quick.  We're just trying to disabuse them of that false notion before it causes them harm.

I have a full time day job and I work on the weekends as a glamour model. I shoot lingerie and nudes but I don't shoot porn.

Shooting every Saturday and Sunday with rarely a day off I make approx 72% of my paycheck through modeling. Does that make sense? What I mean is that if I made 28% more through modeling I would equal my paycheck.

I save 100% of my modeling income and I only spend it if I buy something for modeling, maybe $100 every 6 months.

Every time I see a short model thread, someone comes in and talks about how short, non agency models can make a good living doing all kind of non-nude, non-glamor work. Why are those models not posting in this thread?

They're busy with all those high paid gigs for ad campaigns no one ever sees.

My primary income is from bondage video, art nudes, glamour nudes, and bondage stills pretty much in that order. I'm currently working on a paysite, and I've also done some traditional figure modeling (which I very much enjoy, but doesn't pay well). I don't have any other source of income.

I spend a great deal of what I make on traveling to do what I do and upgrade my wardrobe. I primarily do this because I love it, not because I'm getting rich, because I'm not.

I've noticed this trend as well.

Sure, there are probably some short MM models that make money as import models, or commercial ad campaigns...

But it seems like the common denominator for shorter MM models making money is their willingness to do nudes.

Just one?

Several times when I've hosted a traveling model, I never even got a chance to shoot because they were hustling to 3 or 4 shoots per day.

The way that a short women is most likely to make a lot of money in modeling is by first getting famous as an actress.
