chicks with snapshots...where do you come up with these crazy ideas/rates?
I have been in the biz 3 years now and would never think of charging this much as freelancer...example #1

RATES:
SWIM $150 FOR 2 HOUR MINIMUM / $1000 8 HOUR DAY.
LINGERIE $175 2 HOUR MINIMUM / $1300 8 HOUR DAY.
IMPLIED NUDE/GLAMOUR/BODY PAINT $225 2 HOUR MINIMUM / $1500 8 HOUR DAY.

Are you kidding me?! with just snapshots? or a portfolio shot by ONE photographer? what photographer is gonna hire you for 1500.00 for a full day for just implied nude or body paint? if your a net model you better either have a "name" for yourself or be doing nudes for that price.

what makes you think you are worth that much as newbie freelancer? what's your resume like? who have you shot with? lets see your tearsheets...do you have recommendations form other photographer not just your local joe blow who just got rich off yer ass for doing an entire portfolio for you with no diversity. Are you even aware that the client pays both you and the photographer and unless you are naomi campbell or kate moss you can't give rates or bargain pay??

I'm begining to see why photographers scoff at net models...some of this stuff is absurd! Also "will not travel unless all expenses are paid" it's a write off on your taxes as business travel expenses..keep your receipts and accounting book! If you can get great..if not get a day job, very few models make a living solely on modeling.

Ladies we all have to start somewhere but be reasonable.. work hard and learn your trade before you demand pay such as the one listed above. Rant over...sorry but I'm just surprised at what I have been seeing lately.

I hear ya!! I know beginners models who have never modeled before and have never heard of a portfolio or TFP and wanting to get paid jobs! Now what is up with that??? Has it never accured to them that there are professional models out there that do most of the work??? I have seen those ridiculious rates too and I'm wondering if they are thinking if they are dealing with rich people who can afford $1000 for an 8hour day!! Give me a break!!

Hi Sibyl!

I think MOST new internet models who have never been exposed, taught, nor interviewed or auditioned for street-level model management have no real concept of how paying jobs work.  And I also believe they have been given poor, unrealistic advice and therefore have unrealistic expectations.

But then, some of the so-called modeling schools GIVE these
young hopefuls the idea that the sky is the limit AFTER they successfully complete and graduate from their schools, which cost outrageously.

That is why I try to make sure that new models and/or parents
of minor models read newmodels.com. It is blunt, but completely honest and realistic.

I think that upper class callgirls may charge that much and they let you take pix then too.

I think I rather would hire a "pro" than those internet models... LOL

I did several months of TFP before I started getting paid. I just started out doing this for fun because I wanted nice pics of myself..then people just started offering me money and I realized there was a nice amount of money to be had.

I would say about half the people I work with are legitimately building their portfolios, and the other half are GWC's.

It doesn't really matter to me, I take what I can get. Sometimes what they offer is worth it to me, and sometimes it isn't. I know I don't have the stats to be a "real" model, but I'm having some fun and exploring something new. If I thought I could make it as a model, I would try to get representation from an agency. I always figured that's why models signed up at these sites, because they can't get an agent. No insults meant, and if I'm wrong please correct me (politely)!

Ya, I had a post similar to this expressing my disbleief with inexperienced models who haven't done much charging those kinda rates. Why would a photog pay that for a no name with little experience and little to no credits when they can get a pro model with a recognizable name and face for the same price? I don't get it either.

I guess it's because they just don't know it better... A novice photographer (like I am) often believes that you actually have to pay these kind of rates. I did it somehow too, before I registered here.. That's why I only shot friends so far or asked women in cafés or something...

when I see zero-experience models posting snapshots and charging that much, I instantly assume that they are baiting for perverted GWCs with lots of money who'd like to "hire" (aka sleep, rape, or mollest) them, and that they're okay with it.  When girls post a random webcam shot it's degrating the whole purpose of their portfolio to a mere dating profile, and the fact that they dare to ask that much pay reminds me of prostitution... am I being too harsh here?  No real photographers in the sane mind will hire them with their terms.  Hell Laetitia Casta began with just a snap shot, but that was taken by the agency after she was discovered.  Perhaps they are hoping that one of you out there will "discover" them?

some websites have a rule that you cannot post snapshots on their portfolio.  Perhaps MM should consider that idea?

rant #2....also I don't get why chicks/guys with snapshots call themselves "professional" models?? If you're a pro where are your pro photos/tearsheets? Who's gonna believe you're a pro with snap shots and amatuer pics? Maybe GWCs..

I understand saying you can act "professional" but there is a difference between acting like a pro during crappy situations and being an actual pro model. I think if you're gonna call yourself a pro you should A.) have the images and tearsheets to back it up  and B.) be making a decent living off of this modeling thing.

I think maybe someone should post a list of things to expect as newbie model, proper terms to get familar with a chart that sorta details the levels of a models progress to being a professional..I think most of this craziness would disappear...

Just straightforward advice for NET models..I think some people need to be educated and not from those cheesy modeling schools who rip you off of your money or from bad advice from model managers...

don't even get me started on model managers...

P.S. The Wilhelmina guide to modeling book  is a good start...

Fact of the matter is the same stuff that happened at OMP IS happening here....Girls sign up thinking they are going to make a killing....they post 4 lousy webcam pics....you offer to shoot them JUST to get them something better....and they never respond...You KNOW they read the message...at LEAST REPLY!!!! Next month they'll want $100/hour for bikini work...

I'm just curious, does that actually work for anyone? If you post on your profile or website "$1,000 per day" and have 2 homemade webcam shots as your portfolio, are you steadily employed with $1,000 gigs? If so, I must be doing something wrong!

Yeah... but I think that the more of the neighbors she is willing to service for that rate... the more the look of the callgirl may diminish...

There must be an equation that shows the most efficient rate of a call girl, in relation to her looks and "work" she is willing to do, while still looking fresh and motivated in photoshoots. LOL

The reason they have webcam pics or snapshots is precisely for that reason. They're to "good" (sarcastic joke) to take a low paying job like lets say 150-300 a shoot.

And they will continue to have those same pics untill they get a reality check.

There is an efficient median rate guide for hookers - $1 per minute

So that translates to $60 per hour or $480 per 8 hour day and for all day they'll give you a discount maybe to $450 or even less.

So to put some of these model "rates," and especially what they WON'T do for that money, in perspective then... you can hire a hooker for less and you can get "screwed for real" instead of just getting "screwed"

and as if they knew how to do buisness mathematics either.

so offer them a client product shoot and tell them they need to bring there own props which you get to keep afterwards like they want to keep the cloths they model afterwards!

i can see it now, a naked babe surrounded by TP for all the crap that ooses from her mouth!

heck even the web porn sites with some pretty smokin sidewalk pickups get the 100% nastiest sex on video and dont pay out nearly the asking from these so called 'models'.

Realise this, its 'internet' modeling. unless its somthing allready specifically going to print & publication the competition for good looking girls is 10 for $1.00

i just tagged her:

Pssh.... please.

I'm a newbie model and even I know not to charge that much.  For pity's sake..... I'd be content to get a shoot in the first place, whether or not it's TFP or paid.  If I get a TFP shoot, YEAHY, more pictures for the port.  if the photographer wants to pay, hey, gas money for me.

I think my fav. quote on this thread is "Models on Crack"!!  I think it pretty much sums up the overall delusionality of some of these wannabe models who've had a few BF's & GF's blow some sunshine up their rectums, take pics with their phonecams, and believe they are the next superstar model of the year, and pay them obscene amounts of money for not knowing ANYTHING about the business.

The industry as a whole has been bastardized to the "nth" degree, and the internet has turbocharged this phenomenon.

For those real pros that stay the course, we are saddened to continuously see these types of attitudes, but I choose to shed a few tears of out of control laughter instead...hell, I just look at the positive side  smile

I totally agree... I have experience and even though I think I have some decent pics, I would never DREAM of being that ludicrous or even having the nerve to call myself pro at this stage... humility is always an asset, and I guess some models don't have it...
