Since someone else did a thread on favorite breed of dog I thought I'd start a thread for all the cat lovers here.

So how many people here prefer cats & which breed is your favorite?

My favorites are: Maine Coon & Himalayan

I think if I were to ever get a cat it would have to be a Maine Coon. But I don't know much about cats as I've always had dogs. I do like cats, but my nose doesn't. I think that's why cats like me as well...

But cats are very cool creatures. And I've decided for my next lifetime I'm going to come back as my friend Anna's cat. You couldn't have it any better than that.

trust your nose, my friend, and get a dog! my son found a tiny kitten wandering in the forest many years ago and i caved when he begged me to let him keep it. 15 long years later, i'm convinced all the talk about cats being so smart and so clean is cat ;over propaganda. it's more like having a toxic factory in the house spewing endless billions of cat hairs, tracking his filthy sand from his 'litter' box (with a name like that it should be full of gum wrappers and bottlecaps), the godawful stench that results from anything less than constant maintainance of said litter box, the puked up furballs that look like they came out of his ass. clean? is licking your hands after playing with your own crap clean??? smart? this one will m'wow for hours sitting beside a full dish of catfood and wont stop til you shake it a lil so he hears it before he finally eats in that annoying cat fashion he has (scooping 3 or 4 pellets onto the floor from which he then eats them, always leaving some behind for me to step on). my gawd, i think he'd starve to death if he didn't have an eating coach. he's sixteen and is apparantly only on his first life, so i'm resigned to his infernal presence.
but if i had it to do all over, i'd of told my kid 'no way' and got him a puppy.

I think it would be nice to come back as a cat ... except one that can use toilet paper. I mean sleeping all day is nice, but tht butt thing is a real turn off ... after all, they don't make cat mints wink

/tim

PS I had finished shooting this model few months back. She was playing with my cat and shooting the chit ... she said she would like to be a cat.  I said, 'yeah, it would be ok if it wasn't for having to lick your butt."  Without skipping a beat, she said, "What's wrong with that; if I (she) could lick my butt, I (she) would."  I about dropped my camera.  I never laughed so hard in my life.

I love all kinds of cats, although I have generally found the mutt shorthairs to be the friendliest and most intelligent.

However, I am currently owned by a proud flamepoint Siamese, known as a colorpoint shorthair by the Cat Fanciers handbook.

She is smart, beautiful, and only a little crosseyed....basically a white to cream body shade with red ears and darker cream feet with some red tiger striping on her tail. I didn't believe she was that kind of cat (since I rescued her or she adopted me...with cats this is sometimes questionable as to which actually happened) until I googled it. She is much better natured than the sealpoint siamese, and smart as hell.

I love cats. I mean, dogs actually chase after cars (don't know what they'd do if they ever caught one) .... cats watch cars and say "oh, look, a Mazda" and then go sleep.  Got to love the cat life (except for the butt thing). /tim

the cat's brains is pretty genetic, you can also train cats to use the toilet, something i have yet to see with dogs.  this way you don't have to clean up their stuff after them.  my cats know how to open doors, comfort you when you're sad, point you to any problem areas in the house, like right now we have ants... ugh... i hate ants... my cat found where they were coming in from and showed us.  they also know how to tell me when they need something cleaned, like their water fountain, yes i said fountain, it's healthier to keep the water circulated and filtered than sitting there to collect things. constant shedding of any animal that is like a LOT of shedding is a sign of malnutritien. furballs are treated by most kitty treats such as the ones by Pounce, they're also good for their teeth.  the foods alone do not do this, and the kitties usually love their treats.  my older cat has only ever had 1 furball and hasn't had one since that.

I have two dogs....a german shepard which I wrote about in the dog thread....a wiener dog....Dachshund....who barks at a stone masonary duck everyday....

And I have two cats....I don't know what they are.....found them abandoned under a bush near my wife place of work.....she brought them home....

Inky the male....jet black, head to toe, he's the true boss of the animal household....doesn't take crap from the shepard....in fact just the opposite....he chases Dillon around just for fun....you've never seen a sight more humourous as a twenty pound cat....hanging on to a 95 lb dog....being dragged down the hallway as the the dog runs for cover.....and he's a jealous cat too.....don't get between him and me...he'll swat you for sure....and his favorite snack....DONUTS!!!

Then there is Isis....a calico....sweet little girl.....but has a wail that would wake the dead....and when she's hungry...which ALL the time.....she'll stand there a wail away...until she gets her way.....sounds like my wife...LOL......but a loving cat she is......and she thinks the german shepard is her boyfriend....always hangs with him....sleeps with him...grooms him....and is always loving on him.....really fun to see....

When I hear people say cats are aloof....my two must be the exceptions....they just want to be petted constantly...as kittens they were hysterical....we spent our time watching them play....for hours and hours......bought all sorts of toys....even a three story cat house.....so, what did they prefer.....pieces of old sponge and a coke box.....go figure!

If you read my dog post....and now this one.....you may get the sense we love animals.....and we do.....all animals.....I truly believe they were put here to make our lives fuller...all they ask is that we care for them...and in return.....we get enormous amounts of love.....

If I didn't already have my existing Furslugs -

I'd have a Rex - The cat with a perm.

But, since mine are destined to live forever - Heycat (Totally black domestic shorthair) was 5 they said, from the pound - that was in 91.  She's pretty creaky but, active enough to be a nusance still.

Pumpkin is a giant orange/yellow longhaired Persian - (Think of a moving haystack with feet) - is just 9 years old.

And,  "Why name a cat "Heycat"?"  It's as good as anything else - why name something that won't come when called anyway???

And also, the combination of black and orange shed hair - means it just like Halloween- everyday, at Vintage's house - LOL
