Final - Pre-shoot edit -

First, I want to thank all of the talented people that are coming out. We're going to have so much fun CREATING together.

Here are a couple of important updates for you.

1.) As you'll know, I am a terrible host. I just want to CREATE with all the wonderful talent that we're going have at Pinup Madness. So, I've recruited a rather reluctant young man that asked my daughter to the prom. No good deed goes unpunished so Joseph will be our host. I have arranged for him to have an official UMPIRE shirt so he will be readily identifiable.

There will be a table set up right outside the main house garage. When you arrive, check in with Joseph at that table. Check in means - Sign the event release form, models and photographers pay their $15.00 Stipend, get your hair/mua vouchers (models) and everyone else gets their fancy dancy wristbands.

2. The open field that we were going to park in is unavailable. So, I'll need you to drop of your stuff in front of the house garage - Joseph will watch your gear for you while you park and walk back. I'm really sorry about this twist. As a reminder, DO NOT park alongside the road or in a location other than where Joseph directs.

3. The wristbands are color coded.

Blue and Green are for photographers. Models DO NOT shoot with anyone that does not have a Blue and Green wristband on and ask an assistant to escort that person to Joseph. This is important for your safety.

Red wristbands are for assistants (escorts). They have agreed to WORK at Pinup Madness. It is their duty to assist all models and photographers in whatever way helps yield great images. They can hold wardrobe, reflectors, lighting, retrieve forgotten items, etc. Just ask them when you need help. This is not the time to be shy.

Orange wristbands are for parent of minors that are modeling. While they can be asked to assist, their primary duty is their children.

Everyone, except for the models and the homeowners must have wristbands on.

4. Ken and Patty are our hosts. They have made their home garage available for the Hair and Makeup people to work in. There is power and it is cool. You might want to bring extension cords and power strips. There is a bathroom just inside the house from the garage. You are encouraged to use it for bathroom related needs. Please remove your shoes when entering their home and only go from the garage to the bathroom and back to the garage. DO NOT shoot in their home.

If you have the chance, I expect you to THANK them for their hospitality.

Patty was one of the models at Spring Fever 2. She has agreed to model for us at Pinup Madness. If given the chance, work with her. She is a lovely lady and is very photogenic.

Their daughter, Gerallyn, my current avatar, and her best friend will also be modeling. They are lovely and excellent models. You're going to love working with them.

Ken and Patty have worked hard to clean up and get ready for Pinup Madness. Lets make sure they don't have to work hard to clean up after us.

5. When Joseph isn't checking people in, I've asked him to roam around and make sure people are being safe. The abandoned property is on the verge of condemnation - things may not be as solid as they appear. There is a bee hive inside the outside house wall by the large Pine trees. The barn is particularly weathered. You probably should not climb on it. There are board with exposed nails everywhere. Models should not "run" where they can't see what they are stepping on. Snakes have been seen in the grass. ;-)

Joseph is briefed on the ways of GWC's. My events are not for GWC's. Any and all unprofessional behaviors should be immediately reported to Joseph. Please don't wait until after the event to report stuff to me. My personal pet peeve is photographers touching models. If Joseph or I see a photographer touching a model - you're gone. Use another model or an assistant for any adjustments.

This is a tough "job" for a young man that has never attended a photo shoot. If he requests you to do something, please comply. If you have an issue with something asked, DO NOT throw a temper tantrum, find me and we'll talk about it privately.

6. We are going to do the post event networking dinner at "Net Grill".

7. I will have water and some soft drinks available in the garage. Help yourself. However, you should bring what you need for eat and drink. Do not bring Alcohol.

This is a group shoot event that is similar to Spring Fever 2:

The suggested theme for this shoot is PINUP. I am hosting this theme based on requests from a number of photographers and models. Here it is.

You are free to model what you like and photograph in your own style. You do not HAVE TO shoot pinup, but I recommend you try it to grow. Group events can be a great way to experiment and push creative styles.

Date:

The April Pinup Madness shoot will be held on April 10, 2011.

The current weather forecast is Mostly Sunny - High 67. It will be another gorgeous day. I have secured a "To Die For" Location. This location is so special, that I moved the start time WAY up and I'm devoting a event forum section just for the location - see below.

Time:

9:00AM - Event registration opens. You must sign an "event release" and pay prior to any shooting.

9:15AM - Hair and Makeup opens for models. Please schedule your time with them ASAP.

9:30AM - Ed will do a 30 minute location walk and Q-A session on how to get great images there.

10:00AM - Group Shooting begins.

6:00PM - Group Shooting ends. Yes, that is eight hours of shoot time.

6:00 - 6:20 - Session One of 20 minutes for $20.00
6:20 - 6:25 - Break and model wardrobe change
6:25 - 6:45 - Session Two of 20 minutes for $20.00
6:45 - 6:50 - Break and model wardrobe change
6:50 - 7:10 - Session Three of 20 minutes for $20.00

Note: This is the photographers opportunity to HIRE their favorite models for 20 minutes for 20 dollars. In return, the photographer gets to fully direct the shoot - wardrobe (within model comfort limits) location (first come first served) and the model will sign your release (Please make sure you model has a chance to read it prior to your shoot).

7:10 - 7:15 - Break and final wardrobe change

7:15 - Sunset - Group shooting for the Sunset

Sunset - The event closes and everyone goes home tired, but fulfilled.

Notes: Lunch/Dinner is your responsibility. I encourage you to bring something to fast eat. Do not forget to bring plenty of fluids to DRINK (no Alcohol). There is NOTHING to eat or drink close to this location.

Many of us forgot the sunscreen at Spring Fever 2 and paid for it - me included. Do not forget it again.

Cost:

The cost for Models and Photographers is $15.00. You can sponsor (pay for) your favorite model or photographer.

There is no charge for model/photographer escorts/assistants since they will be WORKING the whole time they are there.

Historically, the events I host are FREE. I am not doing that this time in order to provide MUA/Hair onsite and available to everyone. Please consider this change as an attempt on my part to respond to model requests, and to provide photographers with an even better creative environment. Great hair and makeup goes a long way toward creating great images. Which is why April Pinup Madness or any of the group events I host even exist.

In addition to the $15.00 admission fee, you have to find a way to get yourself to and from the location. Carpooling is encouraged.

Check In requirement

When a model checks in (pays, and signs the event release), they will be given a voucher that is turned into the MUA/HAIR stylist you select. You are highly encouraged to use this talent.

When a photographer checks in (pays and signs the event release), they will be given a wrist band that must be worn. Models - Do NOT shoot with a "photographer" that does not have one of these wristbands.

Escorts, Minor Parents, and Assistants still need to check in. While you won't "pay" you must sign an event release and you'll be given a different  colored wristband.

If you see someone other than a model without a wristband - please report them. This is really important for model safety.


Props-Wardrobe

I have worked hard to give you link to images created at this location and images of what is available.

It would be GREAT if we could get a few motorcycles/restored vintage cars on site. If you have a connection, please let me know and lets get them there.

You can bring any legal props with you. Please make sure they are safe. Do not bring firearms.

I often use thrift shops for wardrobe and props. Model Sara has arranged for Yoshi Now (on Broadway Downtown) to provide a discount to Pinup Madness participants. Sara and I visited with them earlier this week and this place is a dream. Just tell the nice lady at the desk that Sara sent you. ;-)

The host family has a pet rabbit that can be used.

You are welcome to use the plethora of natural props found on the property. If you do use it, please return it to its place.

Location:

The location is on PRIVATE PROPERTY and is relatively secluded. You must have signed an event release to be there.

I will send detailed direction to registered (meaning you told me you were coming) out this Friday. Do NOT give directions to ANYONE else. If you carpool, make sure that everyone attending has registered.

This is country and there are country animals around. People have seen snakes, spiders, bees and lizards.

Parts of this property have been abandoned for some time. The house and barn could be very dangerous. There is broken glass and lots of nails in boards, etc. that could be hard to see in the tall grass. Please be very careful.

1. Will you be wearing that hideous tie dye shirt again so we can find you? Yes, I will.

2. Can I come to only part of the event? You can come and go whenever you can be there. Obviously, the more time you are there the more images you can be part of.

3. I don't want to do pinup, can I come out anyway? Yes, but you're missing out on an opportunity to shoot something different.

4. Can I bring all my friends? No. You can tell them about the event and if they want to come, they can contact me.

5. Can I bring my "assistant"? Yes, as long as they are professional and are available to assist anyone and everyone.

The word of the day is "wow".

I could be wrong, but I don't believe we had as many photographers and models at today's event as we did attending Spring Fever 2. I want to say that those who did not come today truly missed out. This location by far exceeded that of Spring Fever, and everyone working together today had an amazing time, no matter what style they chose to shoot.

Thanks a million for putting this together, Ed, and please thank the property owners again for indulging us. As everyone's photos will soon show, this day was an extraordinary day!
