Ive been shooting Nikon DSLRs since the D70. My 24-70 is undeniably soft. Sending it back for a tuneup. Hope not to have a horror story...

Was it ever sharp or has it always been soft?  I've sent a 28-70 back that had a sticky zoom ring and they did a great job.

Its never been sharp. I never even used it on the D700. My older 28-105 was better. It seems better on the D800, but its still not up to snuff.
