Even as a child, I thought "Do you hear what I hear?" (trying to be a religious song) was stupid, and "The Little Drummer Boy" to be annoying.  50 years later, I haven''t changed my mind.

John Lennon So This is Christmas. I love that man but he managed to make the most pious full of himself song of all time, Not just Christmas but any season ever. And then comes Yoko doing backups just to add more fingernails to the chalkboard. It gets 100 zillion plays every year.

Bah HUMBUG!

Oh, no... no, no, no. Even bugheads know that this is a dreary treacly dirge that was (as is true of much of Lennon and Harrison''s early solo work) made truly abominable by lunatic Phil Spector''s silly production excesses. But it''s good that even people whose ears are permanently mired in the muck of the 90s acknowledge this too. big_smile

As a counter to all this crappy holiday music, I''m going to offer up one that I''d LOVE to hear at any school Christmas concert (but I doubt I ever will):

Fairytale of New York by The Pogues, with the late (and still missed) Kirsty MacColl

I think it is a great song. We could all strive to leave the world a better place for our children. We now interrupt tripe like "Rudolph the red nosed reindeer" to bring you . . . .

So this is Christmas - John Lennon

So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun

And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear ones
The old and the young

A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let''s hope it''s a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong

And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let''s stop all the fight

A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let''s hope it''s a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
And a new one just begun

And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
A very merry Christmas

And a happy New Year
Let''s hope it''s a good one
Without any fear

War is over over
If you want it
War is over
Now...

This is an easy one..... All of them are either stupid or just plain dumb and senseless.

Bruce Springsteen croaking, "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" - a horrible example of what can happen when every pop star is contractually obligated to do a Christmas song.

On the other hand, I can listen to Sting sing, "Gabriel's Message" and Vanessa Williams' jazzy version of, "What Child is This?" over and over...
