Of course it is a SCAM!  You are brand new to Model Mayhem, do not have much of a portfolio and someone wants to hire you and pay you a lot of money to model?  Yeah... Right!

It is a form of what is called the Nigerian Scam.  They will send you a check for more that what they have said that they would pay you to model for the assignment.  They will then ask that you deposit the check and send right away a large amount to a stylist or makeup artist or such.  Their check to you will bounce and you will be out of what ever amount you sent to the other person.

Also, check out the very poor grammar in the message.  "We here by decided to offer you this paid Fashion job. I will be very happy if you could send me more pictures."

You need to read the information at the following link very very carefully to help protect yourself!

That's all you need to know.  Their check will bounce, and you might be out of the "remaining balance" you sent to someone else.

In general, you pay the people you hire, and the client pays the people they hire.  Why would they want you to pay someone they hire?  And why would a leading magazine want to hire someone without much experience for a job 3,000 miles away?

Just run away.  If you got the letter via MM-mail, CAM it.

That's $1166.66 per hour.  WOW!

Why would they trust you, a stranger, with their money?

Hello Yuha,

Welcome to MM. smile

Your correct in thinking it's a scam, as many have explained above.

Basically, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! smile

Ages-old Nigerian Scam
Do Not Reply! Do not give them any info!
Remove your email from your profile! It is visible to every scammer in the world,
and an open invitation to them! Don't reply to any of the many you will now get!

Yes Scam.
I just had one (just posted about it - Scam Alert), although this seems to be "common knowledge"...Considering I have a background in Business, I'm ashamed I even slightly entertained the idea!
But the red flags became apparent -

No website / links
No MM Profile
Check sent to me and then I pay someone else ?????????? Are you serious!
Poor Grammar - I THINK THIS ADVICE IS VERY UNDERESTIMATED. When "they" detail a job you can see certain things have been cut and pasted or words just don't make sense...its ridiculous.
Check from a "x" company...???

When you look at it it almost makes me laugh like "do you think I'm that stupid??"
But when your a newbie (like myself) you almost consider it could be something real....but its not.
Again, I just posted a topic "Scam Alert" in the event that anyone else was contacted by the same "company"

I've responded to them, advised to cease all communication, I've flagged and notified MM. That's the end of it.

Actually, the red flag is that the scammer once had an MM account but was discovered and booted off.

Please see this video and read the article:

Posting a link for anyone that reads this thread. It is already posted all over the site; but for some reason people do not seem to notice it until after they have either logged into a phishing site and gave the scammers their login info or until they have actually been scammed.
