I currently have live books, but will be ending my long run in the near future with them (to many limitations).

Do you prefer to visit photog websites where you can see a thumbnail of a image or do you like it better or worse when you just see one big photo and have to click on previous / next

What (good photographers) websites do you like based on how the images are displayed?

Here's a sample - not sure if I dig this or not, but he is showing all his images on one page and then you can click on any of them

I am very happy with APhotFolio.  They have lots of HTML5 options, their sites all work well in mobil, they have pretty good customer service and I like the way my photography looks on their site.  Most importantly.  Pictures buyers do not like a lot of flashy stuff, they just want to get to the work and the Aphotofolio sites do that.

I agree but would add to that their Design X site is what you want to go with rather than one of their themes. Not even sure that they are still doing themes as their Design X has been so popular.

I think the look of the OP's first link can be achieved with Design X. I think the second link is too blog-y for my taste.

I don't know if this is helpful or not, but I basically found a Wordpress template that had the functionality that I liked, then stripped away all of the design elements and made it more simple and to my liking. The big difference to what you are describing is that my thumbnails are cropped square, then you click on them to show larger images that can be advanced with either a mouse click, or the arrow keys on your keyboard... The theme supports un-cropped thumbnails too though. I just have an OCD thing about grids.

As far as costs, it's basically just my hosting which is about $100 per year, and the $58 I paid for the theme.

The theme is called Milli, but you can see that my site doesn't look much like it anymore.
