Here's a link to some sample photos from the iPhone 7.
http://thenextweb.com/apple/2016/09/07/ … tion/#gref

For a photo from a phone, they look amazing to me personally. Currently I have the iPhone 6 and at 100% zoom view, compared to my D800 it is no where near as good, nor did I expect it to. I'm amazed at how good these iPhone 7 pics look. If I didn't know before hand these were smart phone photos, I'd never have guessed.

What do you guys think? Just strictly asking about the camera here, not about the phone?

BTW not sure if these sample photos started off as RAW photos. iPhone 7 has that feature now.

I'm sorry to be a stick in the mud but only apple could be happily hyping as the latest trend setter for something that hasn't even yet caught up to a camera phone I have had for two years now.

That said and not trying to be a dick, I hope you enjoy it. it does look fun for a camera phone.

My already outdated and has a new model out for over a year now camera phone specs.

I'm sure this new camera will be absolutely outstanding at taking selfies and pictures of that great looking plate of Spaghetti at the Olive Garden.

Years ago I read an article that asked, "Is the iPhone the only camera you'll need?"

I emphatically said "NO!" But I read the article anyway. Very convincing.

So I took some fotos of the same subject using a DSLR and an iPhone and then submitted them to my photography instructors (plural). Neither could discriminate the source device based on the unretouched images.

But I held out "Until they come out with RAW, I'm going to keep my DSLR."

Now it appears that objection is removed. So I'm coming up with another one--"Size matters." ;-)

"How it feels in my hands matters."

These are all true.

Typically, at a real shoot, I'll whip out the iPhone and take a few shots to help models conceptually potentially transition but also to get some for social media and to back up the main camera.

Had a hard time transitioning from film to digital because the original digitals were far inferior to current.

I do not EVER see myself figuring out how to slave studio lights to my iPhone as master, etc.  May be that's a lack of foresight. I've learned rarely to say never. So I'm not saying I never will, I said I just don't ever see myself. Maybe it's a lack of vision.

We cant be far from blue tooth light adjustment apps. Some phones do already have fm raidio but the most popular carriers have blacked them out. Get past that hump and why couldn't we have 2.4G trigger apps?

Long time Apple user here (still using the 5S) and I have to say that this new release has 'underwhelming' written all over it!

My phone camera is 16 megapixels but it's not going to replace my DSLR!

I'm confident that the iPhone 7 camera will be amazing. But then the camera on my Samsung Galaxy S7 is pretty amazing but doesn't come close to replacing my dslr.

Cook is slowly killing Apple. He'd rather sell $16,000 watches than innovate something new and wonderful.

They do seem to be clutching at straws, but I'll stick with my entire Apple set-up. Can't even begin to imagine using Android or whatever else is out there! And as for 12MP or 16 or 64, I really couldn't careless about a phone camera!

Im sure Sony, Canon and Nikon are trembling in fear of Apple (sarcasm).

Actually the cell phone camera has taken away much of their P&S camera business.

I'm annoyed because I had the Optimus G with the laser focusing and semi decent controls, but got the G3 with absolutely zero controls, not even spot metering to control exposure. Then the G4 comes out with fully manual everything controls.

Why would you wait in line if you can just order easier online?

The scarcity idea doesn't hold up against the numbers from the carriers above.. their pre-order numbers are *way* up from previous models.

A major sales point is that it won't turn your airliner into a blazing ball of fire, something the Samsung might do. Or maybe they should call the Samsung not a "smart phone" but rather a "smart bomb."

From an FAA news release:

September 16- Following a Consumer Product Safety Commission recall of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, the FAA is issuing general guidance to airlines about the rules for carrying recalled or defective lithium devices on board aircraft as cargo or in carry-on luggage.

U.S. hazardous material regulations prohibit air cargo shipments of recalled or defective lithium batteries and lithium battery-powered devices, and passengers may not turn on or charge the devices when they carry them on board a plane. Passengers must also protect the devices from accidental activation, including disabling any features that may turn on the device, such as alarm clocks, and must not pack them in checked luggage.

I'm afraid that the innovative spark plug in Apple died a few years ago.  Apple is slowly coasting down, living on past glories and the fanboi financial adoration.

Why be afraid?
Let's say Apple is lacking innovation and they are just milking and milking. If that's the case, what's the big deal? They are milking profits and providing a service/product that people still want.
At some point that will stop, and perhaps apple will die as a company, but such is the normal life of a company.

ETA: edited to increase clarity.
