Hello MM artists

I consider my retouching skills in the high low level, one of the effects I would love to be able to achieve for outdoor photo portraits are like the one in these photos.

The shallow DOF is something you need to do with your camera and lens. For things like the additional glow you can either use gradients or duplicate the current layer, blur it significantly and apply the resulting layer in screen mode (or other suitable) with reduced opacity and proper "blend if".

George,  Tell us more about the "blend if" slider and how it functions in this case and the artistic effect.  Alternately, I might use layer masks to control what is cut or retained and its intensity or blending.   But the Blend if at the end of your sentence sounds interesting.
