I know this technology is a long time off, but isn't it amazing to think that so much more including focus and magnifying could someday be done in post? Literally able to enhance an image like in crime series. Lol

I think it might be different. I think you can create desired magnification and distortions afterwards. I think Lytro just allows getting foreground and background both in focus?

Every photo posted in that article looks like total crap to me.

They've got some work to do before anybody will consider using their invention as a serious tool.
I didn't read the article but one of the most important aspects of lenses is the ability to choose from ultra-wide to super-telephoto as needed for the work being done. I didn't see any signs that they are there yet with that important concept.

My very first camera was lensless…we called it a “Pinhole camera”.  So, perhaps these innovators should get in touch with my 6th grade teacher…
