Nelson Lin is currently a student at Parsons The New School for Design in Manhattan, New York City. He is one of the top graduates for this spring, and one of the select few students finishing the Applied Science in Fashion Design (AFD) program within a year.
Nelson started learning how to sew in high school, when he received a sewing machine from his sister and her boyfriend for his 15th birthday present. He started to experiment sewing by himself, and it remained largely a self-taught effort until he started taking fashion classes at the local community college. After high school, Nelson attended University of California – San Diego (UCSD) majoring in Economics. However, Nelson never abandoned his passion in fashion design, and continued to take classes at the local colleges. Upon graduating UCSD with an Economics degree, Nelson decided to attend Parsons in NYC to pursue his dreams.
With background knowledge in sewing techniques, Nelson was ahead of his class at Parsons and was someone other students turned to for help. To finish the AFD program within a year, Nelson had to take eight courses at once. Further, Nelson also interned at Diane von Furstenberg before coming to Derek Lam, all the while maintaining his class load at Parsons. Many other students were astonished as to the amount of work load Nelson was able to maintain and accomplish. With other Taiwanese designers such as Alexander Wang and Jason Wu as his inspiration, Nelson maintained a close relationship with his professors as well as the Dean of Parsons. They’ve provided invaluable guidance and advice for Nelson to begin his journey into the fashion industry.
After securing funding from an investor, Nelson teamed up with a fellow top Parsons BFA student, Carmen Ortiz, to create their own fashion brand. This new brand is named LinOza, and its debut fashion show will take place this June in New York City. The venue is located right by High Lin Park in Chelsea. Together, they aim to be the next Proenza Schouler. As Nelson and Carmen combine their forces together as a design team, this dynamic duo will be taking fashion by storm and pushing forward for a bright future.

ABOUT MAX LAM

Max Lam graduated from a 3-year advanced program at Hong Kong Design Istitute, majoring in Fashion and Image Design. His areas of focus include Fashion Styling, Fashion History, Makeup and Hair Styling.

Before being accepted into the Hong Kong Design Institute, Lam studied fashion design for 5 years in high school. He won the Image Design Champion Award and Creative Image Award at the HKDI Graduation Competition.

Now that he is a makeup trainer at Hong Kong Housing Authority.
He has 4 years of experience working for a reputable Hong Kong modeling agency and 8 years doing styling, makeup and hair for TV Commercials, film, advertising, magazines, bridal and runway.
