I am not a very skilled portrait photographer to elicit natural behavior from my subjects, I am a novice at best. However, this is what appeals to me the most, that is why I decided to do self-portrait. It is a great visual journal that identifies changes in one’s moods. It is almost like a way to take one’s own temperature” on a daily basis. It enhances your sense of self continuity and cohesion. It is a healthy exploration of self. It gives someone a chance to decide who they want to be on a particular day, even if it cannot be expressed that directly in real life. It is a challenge - a challenge of asking oneself, “How am I feeling today?”, “How will other react to me today?”

I personally enjoy black and white photos. The absence of color makes the shapes clearer. I love emotions and wished that I could express them more often. Black and White can emphasize the structure of the scene, the absence of light can be as important as the highlights. Deep shadows can give depth and solidity to an image. Photography suspends life out of time, but this is more magnified in black and white. It makes one want to look more at the photograph.

What I want to achieve through this is to find models to be able to develop my artistic voice. I would like to find my own unique expression, form, medium and aesthetics which leads to greater originality.
