I was taught in art school a simple concept K-I-S-S keep it simple stupid.  That is what I strive to do is to keep my techniques and images simple and clean.  I try to let the subject matter speak for its self with as little added to it as possible.  If the subject is beautiful I will capture its beauty if it is ugly I will capture its ugliness. 

I am more interested in the image than I am what I used to get the image.  I think a lot of photographers get caught up in the rat race of I have to have a camera with this many mega pixels      and I have to have these lenses and these lights and this gadget or that. 

Simplicity is the best concept for both life and photography.  If you can't get a good image on a 30 year old 35mm SLR you won't be able to get a good image on a new $5,000 digital SLR.  If I were to give any one advise about Photography I would tell them to find a camera they like get comfortable with it and then learn the basics of photography. Shutter speed ASA Aperture.  then train your eye then when you have got that all down invest in the equipment that you need not the equipment you want.
