Post your WORST makeup work here...
Just for laughs! I know I look back at some of my older work and crack up. Post what is in your opinion, some horrific makeup work that you've done in the past. Example: I was practicing the whole glossy look and as you can see, I had issues.... Jul 13 07 09:57 pm Link Faces By Alexis wrote: is that jynnx? I love her Jul 13 07 10:01 pm Link I will be suprised if others will post. If they do it will be interesting what they post. My crappy pictures I got rid of. Jul 13 07 10:14 pm Link We all had to start somewhere, it might be encouraging for the more exprerienced artists to post pictures of some of their earlier work or first tests. I'lll post one of my first tests. This image has not been in my book for a while now. But, we all had to start somewhere and find a photographer who was willing to take a chance on a kid with no book, just snapshots of friends and family. While, I don't think the make-up is anything spectacular, I keep it around to remind me how far I have come and to keep myself in check when I am quick to judge others. Edited to add: per Diana's suggestion: Some new work: Hair Only: Make-up Only: Make-up and Hair: Jul 13 07 10:56 pm Link I'd have to dig 'em out of some dusty file in the basement and scan 'em...that's way too much work for me. Suffice it to say that my worst makeup would trump any posted thus far... so there. Jul 13 07 11:05 pm Link Yeah, My dog Spot ate mine Jul 13 07 11:14 pm Link Well, I was going to post that mine were far away on my backup hard drive hidden in my closet, but then I thought that it would be fun to actually post some. SO! Without further ado, my two very first photo shoots (from when I was in school): After school, I took a three month break and then set to work building my website. That's when I did these lovely makeups: Haha, I think it's safe to say that I've, er, "grown" in the last two years. S. PS - Here's my latest work, to compare: I've accomplished a lot in the year and a half I've been building my portfolio, but I've still got a long ways to go. I'm only now doing shoots where I am ecstatic about the results, and I'm still working on meeting the right people and making good contacts with photographers, hair stylists, wardrobe stylists, etc etc. It's taken a LOT of hard work to get where I am, and I'm not where I want to be yet, so I've got years of more hard work. I'm looking forward to it, though. Jul 13 07 11:23 pm Link i used to love drag makeup...except, sadly these were not drag queens. but they are my first two pictures ever! and trust me, the new stuff needs to be replaced too! i will get there i just love the clip in her hair...oh and the nails...hahahha Jul 13 07 11:33 pm Link Jul 14 07 12:44 am Link The Powder Room wrote: OMG those nails...I don't know if anyone remembers the hawk nails, but I used to wear those. Those were worse. HA! Jul 14 07 12:52 am Link The Powder Room wrote: LOL!! I used to have those crazy bad nails in the late '80's early '90's. Obviously I wasn't an ma then. Jul 14 07 01:04 am Link Diana wrote: I was getting acrylic tips on my nails for a couple months, and I got them at a very sensible short normal length (I was a nailbiter for a long time so mine are really brittle and flakey), and even then it was a pain to keep them clean and sanitary, product would get under the nail and I would always get a gap inbetween the tip and the actual nail, so I would get junk in there. It was gross- even though my nails were BEAUTIFUL :-( So now I just rock the stubs with a clear gloss or sheer color for the most part. Jul 14 07 02:56 am Link Sian Melton wrote: I like all of them! You must be a natural or something Jul 14 07 03:01 am Link I am by no means a makeup artist, but I do do my makeup for most of my shoots, and usually do a good job of it Ken Chen is my favorite photog cause he lets me do what ever I want, and he always comes to my place when he gets new gear. anyways, durring one of our shoots I decided to try out my face shimmer which EVERYONE loves when I wear it to work..... this image was only edited to add the water mark I have clear skin, thanks to the shimmer, I look like I have acne now I know not to use that again! Jul 14 07 09:23 am Link The Powder Room wrote: Sorry to butt in, but I think this make-up is beautiful, k, not the hair clip, but the make-up, the blending was done really well, the eye shadow on both models I love - sorry, I really like it!!! Jul 14 07 09:27 am Link Kelli wrote: Im glad you said that i thought the same!!! Jul 14 07 09:47 am Link OK...so that's why I'm a photograper and not a MUA...I don't think any of them look all that bad! You guys are all so talented! Jul 14 07 09:59 am Link Envy Photography wrote: They're very talented and the pics aren't that bad.. until you compare them to the artists current work. Jul 14 07 10:16 am Link the first two REALLY crack me up. Everything else is nice to ok... in my uneducated opinion. Jul 14 07 10:30 am Link Diana wrote: I put a couple of my more recent shots up... I need to test some more... haha I spent too much time in the past year working in TV. haha. But there is definitely more to come- lots of stuff that has not been published yet or I am still waiting to get back. Jul 14 07 03:23 pm Link This is from my first shoot ever. I remember sitting in my car and wanting to throw up because I was SO stressed out. I got hired by showing pictures of my own makeup because I had nothing else. The instructions were: smokey eyes, matte skin and invisble lips. Poor girl ended up looking like I used a whole compact of pressed powder on her face. I cropped it to spare you the bad wardrobe I never thought I'd look at this picture again! Jul 14 07 04:50 pm Link Ok.....you asked for it. EDITED to post newest work to compare: Jul 14 07 05:53 pm Link Marie-Michele B wrote: LOL!!!! Jul 14 07 05:56 pm Link oh, this is gonna be funny. And then there's the GOOD work! lol I think it's important for artists to remember that it takes YEARS to develop a really strong portfolio, and also that you don't have to use images from EVERY shoot! I have had good luck lately with gaining useable images, but even if you don't, look at it as a learning experience and break them down and figure out what didn't work. Move forward with it. Don't just add images cause you shot them and think they're cool. HTH!! Jul 14 07 08:21 pm Link This is hilarious! I didn't expect to see so many post their bad pics. We've all come a long way, huh? Jul 14 07 08:45 pm Link Lottie wrote: OMG, I remember this picture! Jul 14 07 09:13 pm Link hahah ok i have to post through the tears of my laughter. I hope I get through this okay. Here is my sister looking really disgusted at my atempt to channel Alex Abigiu's ink art looking makeup. LMAO! I think I was so scarred at how bad I was at stepping out of the box that I didn't try anything creative again until 2 years later! LOL! I'm so dying from laughing right now. I can't believe I'm showing this! My current attempt at the black line drawing and very latest... Jul 14 07 10:13 pm Link KatAragon wrote: And that was a good thing 'cause you did what senior artists are always telling the newbies to do... master flawless skin and nuetreal, clean makeup before you attempt the more creative stuff. Jul 14 07 10:24 pm Link this thread needs a bump! Jul 14 07 11:08 pm Link lol im STILL laughing!...and thank you Diana, what you say is VERY true. Stick to perfecting the natural beauty and everything else will be a little easier when the time comes. Jul 14 07 11:10 pm Link I applaud the candor! It takes a lot to show your roots--and though I'm sure there are probably worse images that aren't being posted for some dignity's sake I think this is wonderful to compare the THEN and NOWs of your portfolios. Kudos! Jul 14 07 11:21 pm Link LoniONewby wrote: Trust Loni.. there are far worse... they're in my basement. lol! Jul 14 07 11:28 pm Link |
