Just for laughs!  I know I look back at some of my older work and crack up.  Post what is in your opinion, some horrific makeup work that you've done in the past.  Example:

https://pic70.picturetrail.com/VOL1863/8892062/16804760/265555598.jpg

I was practicing the whole glossy look and as you can see, I had issues....

We all had to start somewhere, it might be encouraging for the more exprerienced artists to post pictures of some of their earlier work or first tests.

I'lll post one of my first tests.

https://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y38/rrdesimone/PHILIPPE/phillipe1.jpg

This image has not been in my book for a while now. But, we all had to start somewhere and find a photographer who was willing to take a chance on a kid with no book, just snapshots of friends and family. While, I don't think the make-up is anything spectacular, I keep it around to remind me how far I have come and to keep myself in check when I am quick to judge others.

Edited to add: per Diana's suggestion:

I'd have to dig 'em out of some dusty file in the basement and scan 'em...that's way too much work for me.
Suffice it to say that my worst makeup would trump any posted thus far... so there. https://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/aetsch/cheeky-smiley-022.gif

Well, I was going to post that mine were far away on my backup hard drive hidden in my closet, but then I thought that it would be fun to actually post some. SO! Without further ado, my two very first photo shoots (from when I was in school):

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/superpunkkittie/sm01.jpg https://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/superpunkkittie/50.jpg

After school, I took a three month break and then set to work building my website. That's when I did these lovely makeups:

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/superpunkkittie/B_13.jpg https://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/superpunkkittie/51.jpg

Haha, I think it's safe to say that I've, er, "grown" in the last two years.

S.

PS - Here's my latest work, to compare:

https://img9.modelmayhem.com/070709/21/4692f239b669a.jpg

https://img7.modelmayhem.com/070512/21/4646697980c44.jpg

I've accomplished a lot in the year and a half I've been building my portfolio, but I've still got a long ways to go. I'm only now doing shoots where I am ecstatic about the results, and I'm still working on meeting the right people and making good contacts with photographers, hair stylists, wardrobe stylists, etc etc. It's taken a LOT of hard work to get where I am, and I'm not where I want to be yet, so I've got years of more hard work. I'm looking forward to it, though. big_smile

I was getting acrylic tips on my nails for a couple months, and I got them at a very sensible short normal length (I was a nailbiter for a long time so mine are really brittle and flakey), and even then it was a pain to keep them clean and sanitary, product would get under the nail and I would always get a gap inbetween the tip and the actual nail, so I would get junk in there. It was gross- even though my nails were BEAUTIFUL :-( So now I just rock the stubs with a clear gloss or sheer color for the most part.

I am by no means a makeup artist, but I do do my makeup for most of my shoots, and usually do a good job of it

Ken Chen is my favorite photog cause he lets me do what ever I want, and he always comes to my place when he gets new gear.

anyways, durring one of our shoots I decided to try out my face shimmer which EVERYONE loves when I wear it to work.....

this image was only edited to add the water mark
https://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b221/tigres114/KenChencandleunedited.jpg

I have clear skin, thanks to the shimmer, I look like I have acne

now I know not to use that again!

They're very talented and the pics aren't that bad.. until you compare them to the artists current work.

You see, this is why many 'just add water' and newbie mua's think they're pro and ready to charge way before they should.

What would be great is if those that have posted pics would edit to include the best pic of their current work so newbies can really see the difference side by side.

This is in no way a diss to the artists that have posted.  I have already mentioned that my worst makeup trumps any of those posted thus far.

I put a couple of my more recent shots up... I need to test some more... haha I spent too much time in the past year working in TV. haha. But there is definitely more to come- lots of stuff that has not been published yet or I am still waiting to get back.

On another note, while not "bad" to most people's standards- I don't know if anybody else is like me- but I am very much a perfectionist. So the make-up that I did earlier in my career, I would NEVER show to another client- usually it has a lot to do with multiple factors: model, photographer, color choice, technique, etc...

This is from my first shoot ever. I remember sitting in my car and wanting to throw up because I was SO stressed out. I got hired by showing pictures of my own makeup because I had nothing else.

The instructions were: smokey eyes, matte skin and invisble lips. Poor girl ended up looking like I used a whole compact of pressed powder on her face. I cropped it to spare you the bad wardrobe wink

I think it's important for artists to remember that it takes YEARS to develop a really strong portfolio, and also that you don't have to use images from EVERY shoot!

I have had good luck lately with gaining useable images, but even if you don't, look at it as a learning experience and break them down and figure out what didn't work. Move forward with it. Don't just add images cause you shot them and think they're cool.

HTH!!

hahah ok i have to post through the tears of my laughter. I hope I get through this okay. Here is my sister looking really disgusted at my atempt to channel Alex Abigiu's ink art looking makeup. LMAO! I think I was so scarred at how bad I was at stepping out of the box that I didn't try anything creative again until 2 years later! LOL! I'm so dying from laughing right now. And that was a good thing 'cause you did what senior artists are always telling the newbies to do...  master flawless skin and nuetreal, clean makeup before you attempt the more creative stuff.
You figured it out and look how well it paid off and in such a short time!

Those new images are stunning Kat.. simply stunning. smile
