Any advice/info on a shorter model getting signed with an agency or is that a far fetched dream that's unachievable? I've been searching my agencies in my state and I never meet the height requirements. Getting frustrated and not sure where else to look.

For fashion / runway it's not going to happen at 5' 4". However that's not the only type of modeling out there.
Definitely pursue modeling of some kind if that's what you dream of

I wouldn't use the words "far fetched." It is, however a challenge. My only advice is to be persistent and be patient if you are rejected. You are gong to hear "no" more than you will hear "yes." Don't let it get to you.

have you gone to see all the agencies? what did they say? you do hear talk of acting and tv and promotional gigs as potential options for shorter girls. yoanna house said the market in mexico is easier for shorter girls.
but for runway seems like they want them tall and young. my step-niece is 6' tall and i think she could be a model if she wanted to be (instead she's in her freshman year of college and playing softball).

Thank you everyone ! I don't expect to do any fashion/runway work, more print/catalog is ideal. I also don't expect to have this as my fulltime job either. I'm realistic about my height and age but we'll see what happens!

its sad that u feel short sumone shuld invent some big shoes that u can hide under pants or a dress if thats wat u r wearing. i dont think that wuld work if u just had on underpants tho but maybe they culd make some fake long legs or sumthing anyway u r very baeutiful so u will do good at modeling xxo

maybe she culd get a tatoo of a butterfly coming out of her chest like it is trying to escape her ribs and u can see her heart and stuff but there is more hands coming out tryin to stop it from getting away but like really big on her chest and maybe the wings can be her boobs, that wuld stand out a lot and be very unicque xxo

Find a talent agent who will book you commercial/catalogue work-
you don't have to resort to posing nude if you don't wish to.

A search into the right places will fill you work schedule.. Short goes to things that do not need 6 ft models.. I have been in the commercial photography field for 60 plus years.. and I always prize the shorter model over the taller one. A Kitchen appliance look small with a tall model!!! The interior of a cabin Cruiser look very spacious with a 5" model.. And I can go on and on.. Oh yes. jewelery is one that doesnt take a height measusrement.
Don't expect a model agency to pay you much attention.. But advertising agencys will treasure you... Send a head sheet to the ART DIRECTOR, there are directories in most large libragaies.. We do boat catalogs, car accesories, home appliances, shop tools, and on and on...
If you have a commercial and industrial photographer in you area, contact them and be sure they have up to date head sheets. Good luck

The OP's question isn't what she can do at her height and age, the question is how does she get signed by an agency. I agree, there are things that a shorter model can do. The issue is that it is, and will be harder for her to find an agency to sign her because of her stats.
That having been said, it isn't impossible. There is a slight chance that she will find an agency that loves her and overlooks those things. It may not happen, but if it does, it will take patience and perseverance on her part. That and a very good commercial portfolio.

height is only important in a live setting on a runway or on film. Models come in all sizes and models who are unique are what I shoot, I love curves and I love bones, its all beauty to me.

I don't live in Chicago, do some research and I'm sure you'll find one. I read this same comment on the web, time and time again "get a talent agency." A talent agency typically represents talent, i.e. singers, dancers, actors, magicians, etc. While it is true that some talent agencies represent models as well, the standards for signing a model are no different because it is a talent agency rather than a modeling agency.
If the OP has a talent, and thus has something to be represented, you are correct, height won't matter. There are plenty of short actors and singers. If there were a real market for 5'4" models, then modeling agencies would be signing them. There is no category "short models represented by talent agencies" on Modelwire.
In a smaller market, there is certainly a possibility that a 5'4" model could be signed by a commercial agency. The OP has a great look. The caveat is there really isn't much work in smaller markets. On the other hand, the clients are less sophisticated.
In Chicago, the possibility is very, very remote. Unless she is indeed an actor, singer, etc, looking to talent agencies isn't going to change anything.
I have often thought it is unfair that, otherwise very viable models can't make it because of their height, but having been in the business so long, I understand the reasons. If the OP wants to get signed, she is going to have to work hard, build a strong commercial portfolio, be persistent and be patient.
If you know of a talent agency that signs short models in her area, I would love to know the name.

I'm 5'2 and I know that makes modeling more limited but so far I'm having a blast and I am grateful for every chance I get to be in front of the camera! I don't know your market - but check with your local agencies about "petite modeling" - in my market you would be a bit too short...

I love short models, they fit in small studios.  Send a comp to all your local advertising companies, including billboard/outdoor advertising companies. Pay is fair, exposure is awesome!
