MMG-NY For real or scam?
Hi, Does anyone have information on Model Management Group in NYC? Thanks, Candace Feb 02 07 12:50 pm Link Scam Scam Scam Scam SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Feb 02 07 12:54 pm Link Thanks-- Feb 02 07 12:55 pm Link And that concludes out broadcast. Feb 02 07 12:57 pm Link Funny....short, sweet, to the point. Thanks again. Feb 02 07 01:02 pm Link That's strange...I've worked with them before and have never had any problems with them. They even landed me a spread in Elle Magazine. They're nice people who always pay me promptly. In my opinion, they're definitely not a scam. Feb 03 07 12:15 pm Link I've worked with them too and I never had problems! Also, they are very cool with not taking their cut out of paychecks that are on the smaller side. Feb 03 07 01:02 pm Link Scaldis wrote: I am curious as to what made you conclude that they are scammers? You wrote it with such ferocity- it's almost as though you had a specific incident with them. Feb 03 07 01:08 pm Link they're not a scam, but about 50% of the people have some type of problem with them. they can get flaky... i happen to know them. but i won't say anymore than that. Feb 03 07 01:10 pm Link Why don't you PM Tx, he is from the NYC market? Feb 03 07 01:15 pm Link I interviewed with them and they wanted me to sign an exclusive contract, I decided not to because I didn't want to limit myself. I was sort of skeptical about the contract though because they aren't a major model agency, so I thought it was weird that they wanted it to be exclusive. I haven't heard of an exclusive contract just for commercial modeling? I'd move on to the next if I were you! Feb 03 07 02:33 pm Link Amandajp wrote: i'd have to agree with you Amanda....trust me on that. Feb 03 07 04:57 pm Link Amandajp wrote: Same thing happened with me. But they never asked for money or anything. So I don't think it's a scam, they just could run their business better. Feb 03 07 05:09 pm Link Thanks everyone! I appreciate your input. Candace-Lauren Feb 04 07 09:02 am Link I don't have as rosy a feeling about them as some others here do. In my view they are akin to a portfolio mill, and nobody should sign an exclusive with them. They aren't nearly strong enough as an agency to warrant it. Feb 04 07 09:14 am Link Thanks Tx, I appreciate your advice because I know you know the market very, very well. We will say no. Thanks so much for responding. Candace-Lauren Feb 04 07 09:17 am Link There's a girl in DC who is scene-famous for being signed with them. She was a child model and I think she is 15 now.. and her biggest assignment was she was on the cover of the Washington Post Magazine once. They did make her do an exclusive contract, but I know she was breaking it and they didnt do anything to stop that either. They seem to be connected, but I think its luck of the draw how they treat you. Feb 04 07 04:42 pm Link They are a scam, trust me. Feb 10 11 01:31 am Link Jun 29 11 11:56 am Link Traci Eisenstadt wrote: Were you an extra? Jun 29 11 01:58 pm Link Im so worried so many mixed views. I am about to meet with them, I guess I will find out for myself Jul 11 11 12:07 pm Link I'm signed to MMG and live in Ny. Not a scam. I've booked more gigs through them than through any of my high fashion agencies. Always get paid and actually love my bookers. I'm cool with everyone at the agency as well as the owner Jeff. Don't believe the bullshit. If your not with MMG and have booked through MMG you can't talk. I know from experience as well as you can call at any time and ask if I'm on the board or not as well as how many jobs in the last year and 1/2 I've booked through them. MMG is the shit and to get with them is a privilege. They don't ask for money but a few bucks to get you on the website that I never paid and they just took out of my first paying job. 45 bucks only. KNow your facts before asking the world for their opinions. Simona,Ben, Eva, Mandy, Theresse, Christie the accountant. I know everyone there. As well as the new booker Allie from Cali that just started last week. Now you can determine your facts from the actual models that work with MMG. Then they asked for something around $400 just to be put on their website. I told them to take it out of my first booking and they said they only do that with signed clients. I was only interested in freelancing with them for commercial and print. I didn't pay them the fee. I haven't heard from them since and that was at least 8 months ago. I think they're sort of a legitimate agency, but depend on model's registration payments as part of their income. I think they have some select models that they put on their "A" list and the others never get sent out. Nov 08 12 03:39 pm Link scammish Nov 08 12 09:39 pm Link Just as a point of information, there is: http://www.mmgny.com, a marketing and media management company and an apparently unrelated: http://www.nymmg.com/ , a model/actor personal management company which apparently licences its name as does Whilelmina. Possible explanation of the differences of opinion. That's quite a resume for someone who describes themselves as an "aspiring model looking to build her portfolio." Nov 10 12 12:22 pm Link HA!! plus 11111111111111 Nov 11 12 12:07 am Link I'm also wondering about this.. I'm sick of people saying agencies are scams though without ever working with them. Did you apply online in October? Nov 12 12 05:26 pm Link I just had a meeting with them and MMG wants to sign a non-exculsive contract and pay over 600$ worth in fees. They say its for me to be posted on website for jobs and how casting directors will be able to find me in their database through their website. I believe if a real agent wants to work with me and sees the potential in me to make money for them then there a fee wouldn't be necessary but it makes me feel like their scamming me.... any thoughts??? Jun 18 13 10:23 am Link Traci Jordan wrote: i agree with you traci jordan Jul 09 13 01:27 pm Link they are definitely not a scam agency. i have booked commercials with them and print campaigns with them and i am non exclusive with them either. i never had a problem with pay with them either. as of matter of fact i just left an audition for them today for a commercial. i have nothing negative to say about them and they are very personable. you can just pop up and talk with them etc. Jul 09 13 01:30 pm Link Okay, so. I started the process with MMG two years ago. I've been going through alot & the VP, also the woman who is my agent, Aviva, is a total sweetheart, scam agencies make you pay for port work. Aviva set me up with some amazing photographers, they have good ethics there, don't let people's misconstrued opinions on what a scam is cloud the reality. Listen, anytime you go into an agency, you are taking a risk. You have more restriction exclusive or non-exclusive contract, yes, non-exclusive has more freedom, etc... But any agency can "scam" you, you may not always get the best work, but that partially has to do with the effort you put in, and the jobs available. Also union vs. non- union work can also make a difference. Get to know agencies, go in for interviews you're not bound to sign or pay for going in, test the waters & see what suits you, also look for open calls, bring a good port, that will do you well. Hope that made some sort of sense, wish you the best in your endeavors. Sep 17 13 02:46 am Link LaurenB wrote: Just curious... Sep 17 13 03:44 am Link If you enter the name of any respected organisation into google and add the word 'scam' to it, you're bound to come up with hundreds of results. This is the internet, people can claim to be who they want to be, they can claim knowledge of something they really don't know anything about. Sep 17 13 04:01 am Link
