I think the time of day that you post your "newbie" thread is important also. I posted mine at night and only had about five responses even though I mentioned many of the fora regulars in my OP. If you want to take a look, here it is: https://www.modelmayhem.com/p.php?thread_id=198703 .I think I would have had more people meet me if I had posted earlier in the day.

That is quite possible.

As we have a new influx of members, I'm sure this will be pertinent.

I'm a newbie here, and being a newbie here and searching these titles, it's worth agreeing and repeating it 1000x ... put the LOCATION in your title.  :-)
.
I'd bet most folks here are very interested in knowing who among us lives within 100 or so miles of them.  The world is full of beautiful models and artful photographers, all who live a thousand miles away from us.
.
It's an Model Mayhem amazing and helpful tool to know who lives close enough to actually WORK with, and the fast/easy/smart way to let everyone know where you are is not to make them open and read a gazillion message.  Let them SEE it at a glance, in your title/headline.

Very good suggestions in the op. I've just read this thread for the first time. The thread is a bit old but the information is still valid. I've added a link to this thread at the end of my survival guide.

*bump*

Come on newbies. I'm seeing 6 new threads title "New to MM". If you're posting in this forum, we already know you're new to mm. Include a little more in the title, like where you're from, what role you play in the industry, or even what flavor of jelly beans you like.

Newbies don't care.

The only suggestion I've ever saw that I liked was to send every newb the survival guide in a message. Or send them this thread. But just having great ideas does nothing. Newbs still show up and start YELLING.

How did you find this thread after a year in hibernation?

Anyway - scroll up, click on Newbie Forum, then look at the top right for New Topic.

When I was new I didn't know what was going on. I actually deleted Tyler as my friend because I didn't know who King Tyler was!

It would have been nice to receive a "welcome packet" similar to a "read me first" pdf you get with new software.

I would have kept Tyler.

Ha, ha, me too: blush!

If it makes anyone feel better, I read this post first before responding to any others. So it's working, folks! When I go to the newbie forum and start my first thread, I'll be sure to utilize this wise information. Much love to the ones who put hours of time into writing these guides up.
