NC Gal Dec 04 07 04:59 pm Link Models, beware!!!!! If you get an offer for an insanely large amount of money, and they want to have you cash the large check and send them some of the money back, don't do it! Models, beware!!!!! If you get an offer that is too good to be true than it IS too good to be true! Dec 04 07 05:03 pm Link Um yes, duh. Thanks. Dec 04 07 05:04 pm Link NC Gal wrote: ? What did you do? Send off a big chunk of money or fall for the nude webcam interview? Dec 04 07 05:04 pm Link NC Gal wrote: What's the nature of this particular scam? Dec 04 07 05:05 pm Link Thanks for the response. The amount suggested in for this shoot was $400 for travel, which did not seem unreasonable for traveling from NC to Florida. You are correct though and I really do appreciate the response. Thanks. Dec 04 07 05:06 pm Link oh!! maybe it was one of those nude webcam interviews! haha............ Dec 04 07 05:06 pm Link The individual claims to be doing a erotic lingerie calendar/men's magazine spread. He agrees to cover travel and an additional $1,000 for the shoot itself. This occurred in Tallahassee, FL and he said he saw my profile on MM. I just wanted to make other models aware in case they got the same information or have an information that will help locate him so he doesn't do this to other models. Thanks. Dec 04 07 05:07 pm Link Lots of scams going on these days. Dec 04 07 05:08 pm Link Once I got home I called the bank to see if funds were available before depositing it in my account. Needless to say they weren't. Dec 04 07 05:09 pm Link Read newmodels.com. This is the same as all the other obvious scams. I'm sorry that you fell for it. Dec 04 07 05:10 pm Link NC Gal wrote: So you went down there and had the photo shoot, and the check was no good. Is that right? Dec 04 07 05:11 pm Link Forward the information to the FBI as they investigate internet scams and frauds. Dec 04 07 05:12 pm Link GUYS.. GUYS GUYS.. come on.. how many people will fall into this.. I thought it was a joke that really only very naive people believed in these things.. I get emails like this all the time and I just erase them without thinking twice... come on people .... Dec 04 07 05:13 pm Link NC Gal What's the nature of this particular scam? theRoxy wrote: Several of these types of scams have been linked back to terrorists. I'm not sure if this one in particular is. My wife and several other citizens of this town were contacted by something similiar. My wife told them flat out that she was not interested, but they mailed her the check anyway with some sort of instructions on how to make more money. She reported it, and it seems that the FBI and Homeland Security do some of the investigation. Dec 04 07 05:15 pm Link You are correct about doing the shoot and the check being no good. I had actually checked this person out, but obviously they are a pro at this sort of thing which is why I am putting this on here to warn people. I'm sure I'm not the first one who's fallen for this, but if the information is not put out there for others to see, how can they be aware? Dec 04 07 05:15 pm Link I've heard of the type of scams you are talking about involving large checks and I do delete those right away. This did look legitmate. The person had contracts and all and had a site up and everything, but then, of course, on Monday, the site had been taken down, etc. Dec 04 07 05:17 pm Link stupid scams... soo what happened he sent u a check... and then u deposited it and he asked u to send the extra money back to him... i need to know the details... Dec 04 07 05:17 pm Link That's funny that I never heard about this scam and I am in Tallahasseee. Hmm...anything that comes through my e-mail from overseas or even here get the big delete! Dec 04 07 05:18 pm Link No, I was given the check at the shoot on Saturday, got home and called the bank on Monday and found out the check was no good. I had orginally asked for a money order or cashier's check and the person said nothing about not having that until after the shoot. You can bet in the future I will get payment up front. I should have let me big-a** husband take care of his butt the way he should be taken care of. Dec 04 07 05:20 pm Link NC Gal wrote: Did you pay the $400? Dec 04 07 05:24 pm Link So you flew down to FL and you're out the airfare plus your time for the shoot..I'm sorry I feel horrible for you... every single offer I get no matter how legitimate it may seem I look at is as a potention scam and start the research The guy is scum.... Dec 04 07 05:25 pm Link No, I received the check, but found out it was fraudulent. I never deposited it. I just called the bank it was written on and found out it was not a valid account. I am just out the money it cost me to travel to Florida. Luckily, I am a thrifty spender! Dec 04 07 05:26 pm Link This seems to be different from the Nigerian "check for too much money" scam. It seems this guy just stiffed the model, and she wasted her time. I feel badly for her, and I am glad she was not harmed. BTW NC Gal, I always pay my models cash. Not just for the trust issue, but the immediacy of doing a job and being able to run out for sushi or lingerie or gas or whatever. Dec 04 07 05:35 pm Link . Next time ask for prepayment with Krugerrands. If an offer appleals to one's GREED -- it is likely a SCAM. . Dec 04 07 05:38 pm Link NC Gal wrote: OK, so let me get this straight.... Dec 04 07 05:54 pm Link Yes, I did all that you mentioned. I have relatives in Florida, so I didn't think it was that big of a deal. I did use what I thought was due diligence in checking this person out. Dec 04 07 07:39 pm Link I spoke to them on the phone numerous times, e-mailed them, checked the sites they referenced, talked to the spouse about the situation before going. Even is someone is going to scam you, you can ask for references and they can easily have someone else pretend to be someone they've worked with when in actuality they are just someone who's going along with the scam. I can say that this was a learning lesson and I will be much more selective about having an escort in on a shoot with me at all times and demanding payment upfront. And I guess for those photographers who don't like escorts present during a shoot, I guess I just won't be given the opportunity to work with them. That will probably lessen my chances of getting some jobs I'm sure. Dec 04 07 07:43 pm Link NC Gal wrote: Well there is one thing right there.. if someone is covering travel LET THEM COVER TRAVEL! They need to get you a plane ticket or send you a check in advance ect. You should not be paying the expenses yourself.. that is always a scam Dec 04 07 07:44 pm Link Also, I really didn't put this on here to be chastized or have people be scarcastic with me. I put it on here in an effort to keep others from falling for this and getting hurt and hopefully to get any further information to help find this guy. Do you think I don't already fill bad enough about the situation? There's also more to what happened then I am willing to put on here, so please save your responses if you plan to be sarcastic or chastizing. Thanks. Dec 04 07 08:38 pm Link NC Gal wrote: SO oyu actually met with this photographer??? i had someone send me a check... and i let the person send me a couple checks because i knew it was a scam... but i liked playing with them on the phone and making them waste money on fed-ex... but i didnt think they actually did the fake shoot... Dec 04 07 09:38 pm Link NC Gal wrote: He does a bit more than that, but I refuse to go into details here. Dec 04 07 09:57 pm Link NC Gal wrote: Check your MM Mail. Dec 04 07 09:58 pm Link Renee Blaine wrote: OK, yes it does seem different form the normal scams because the other scams i do not think would actually MEET with you and actually SHOOt you, WOW, he's got BALLZ! Dec 04 07 10:34 pm Link WillSpringfield wrote: Like I said, I won't go into details here. Dec 04 07 10:38 pm Link I'm assuming this guy has your photos and a signed release, so he can do pretty much what he wants with them. And you got absolutely nothing out of the shoot...no images and no compensation. Dec 04 07 10:42 pm Link This is why you don't put your email address/yahoo sn/aim sn on mm. I learned that within the first month I was on this site. Dec 04 07 10:45 pm Link |
