i need to find a grid for my beauty dish, the ab site doesn't have any listed. does anyone know where i can find one, and do you have any recommendations on the degree, or whatever you call the grid size.

It doesn't look like they make them specifically for AB...

Aren't grids made to fit specific brand reflectors?

From what I've read, it just snaps im. I've heard it's a little lose, but not to the point where it falls out or anything like that.

I'm pretty sure paul is making one for 2009, but who wants to wait that long...

In most cases, honeycomb grids are spring fitted in a specific sized reflector. AB makes a 22" reflector. The grid posted above is also 22". It should work fine...

And if it comes down to it, a few squares of velcro crammed between the two should keep it from moving

Here you can see the spring clips located on the rim of the AB grids...

Here you can see the grid inserted into it's respective reflector. (note the clip holding the grid in snug - where the tag is)

I couldn't get mine to "snap in" or be "loose"

Mine is too big and I have to duct tape it onto the AB dish

I have an AB Beauty Dish and the Speedtron Grid. The grid has some metal snaps that fit the beauty dish perfectly.

When I tried to use those metal snaps it just scratched the white surface of the dish. Have to look into this again

I ordered the Speedotron 22" grid on 1/3/08, and I still haven't gotten it yet.  I last checked on it last week, and the salesman said that Speedotron didn't have any, and had to manufacture more.  I should have it any day now.  I never heard of this before, but the salesman has been a friend of mine for 25 years now, so I know he wouldn't BS me.  Check around to see if whoever you're dealing with has one in stock.

In the event its a little loose, couldn't a little duct tape to use as a bushing hold it in better??

The Speedo grid goes on the outside of the AB dish. Held in place by springs that wrap around the outer lip.  Mine fits pretty snugly.

I just got the Speedotron grid , via Adorama, and dang, what quality!
no wonder it costs more than the AB Dish itself!
even the box packaging is high class.

That's the one I have for my AB beauty dish.  Takes a minute to figure the clips out but it fits perfectly.

Thanks for the illustration of with and without the grid. I was wondering why everyone was so vocal  about getting one. That helps alot in understanding the difference.

Are you "pulling" the springs apart the letting them clip over the BD?

I tried to order a Speedotron grid from Calumet, the usual place that I get stuff like that.  They sent me a notice saying that it was backordered and it would take about 4 weeks.  So...  I tried B & H but they are on a break due to a religious holiday.  Then I remembered seeing a previous thread about the grid offered by Kacey Enterprises.  The grid by itself wasn't available, but it was if you also bought the grid packaged with a carrying case for the dish.  I ordered it, just got it Monday, and can't wait to use it.  I got the grid and the case for about the same price as the Speedotron grid all by itself.  Thanks, Kacey Enteprises!
