I like Make Up For Ever's Face and Body, it's all that I use, with powder, makes the skin look like Velvet!

I just bought MakeUp Forever matte velvet+ foundation...I absolutely adore it. I have terrible skin in general from old skin disease scars and other type scars...along with acne...this foundation however has AMAZING coverage. My skin looked flawless after I applied it (with a foundation brush). There are plenty of shades as well, so I even found a good shade for my dark skin with a yellow undertone. Definitely a favorite.

Love "Make-up Forever" as well but not the price and all the bottles
For Movies in Film or High def I like Ben Nye and all of my special effects make-up is Ben Nye as well. Bye Nye has the same colors and pigment as MAC. I think MaC Foundation is the worst ever! Like Cinema Secrets too

LORAC oil-free is amazing it looks like skin but better.
When I need more coverage I go with the RCMA because its easy to use and never dissapoints.

I mix my LORAC with luminizer and its incredible.
Armani has amazing foundations, but PRICEY.
I am a big Vlongo fan too, I think the water canvas looks amazing in photos.

the RCMA sampler pallets are finally in!  I love a few brands but I keep opening the RCMA on jobs because the ease of the sampler pallets (so many colors without digging) and the color is always right on the money

Got the RCMA Shinto and will use it on a shoot tomorrow. Also ordered samplers from Mary. We'll see how they look in pics, but when I tried it on myself the RCMA looked like second skin, I was amazed!

Cinema Secret Palettes are FABULOUS and they give great coverage. I would also opt for Makeup Forever Palettes. Both brands are known in the makeup industry and have a variety of colors. You have gotten alot of sugguestions and I would do a little research before deciding which one to go with. I hate carrying around so many types of foundations too sad. It makes our JOB so much harder and heavier. I hope you all have a fabulous weekend.

Ladies, I second that. Let me arrange myself for the TFCD from hell tomorrow morning: 6 models, 6 photogs, one little old me...
The RCMA better work, and I have a feeling it will. After this weekend, I'm dumping my MAC foundations in the east river!

Mary these are the ones I have shinto and ko- I bought them in your store awhile back and I still have alot left. Some of the colors I ran low on so I mix a few together sometimes.

Seriously if you don't have the RCMA - you need to get it now I have never been happier with any foundation I also reccomend purchasing the foundation thinner.
I am getting the full size soon.

if you run out of a color you can buy the singles and just scoop them into the pallet. Thats pretty economical way to go...thats what I do.

I started this forum Feb 06, and have used and truly appreciate all the great advice that was given. I am personally now in LOVE with Graftobian high def cream and the Graftobian high def powder. I used my Cinema Secrets for a while and loved it, but I just like my Graftobian a wee bit better. They give amazing coverage and the cream glides on like a buttery dream. It was used in my avatar, and most of the shots in my port. LOVE IT!

Hi guys, great posts, only by reading them I've got so much usefull information !!!! Thanks....
Just wanted to know your opinion about Joe Blasco bases. I graduated from Joe Blsco school and they gave us only his foundations, but i don't like them......Are they good for photography?

I haven't done a ton of makeup for professional photography, but taken pics of makeup I've done with Smashbox High Definition Foundation.  Everything in my port is done with it. I LOVE it! It's great for when you want to look flawless but not made-up.  The colors work for just about every skin tone.  Now High Def photography is all about your artistry and blending...but this foundation makes it so easy!  As far as portability...I would just buy a few key shades and adjust as needed.  I would suggest Fair #2, Light #2, Light #3, Medium #3 and Dark #2.  That should cover most skin tones.

Plus, as far as being sensitive goes...I break out/get rashes with everything...I mean everything (Cetaphil, Neutrogena, Mineral Makeup, MAC and many others included,) and the Smashbox HD foundation is the first to not break me out in my life.

Now, this foundation is good for medium/full coverage, but it's not a concealer-type coverage...so you might need to use a cream foundation for correction.

One other note...I worked backstage at Fashion Week Live in Houston (they re-did fashion week NY in Houston and San Fran,) and it was sponsored by Sephora. Smashbox got credit for the foundation and primer.  Now, that's not to say that EVERY model was wearing that foundation, but for Sephora to choose it over all their other lines, that means something, IMO.

Oh, also, on a side note...those of you having issues with the Smashbox Photofinish Primer...most of the issues can be solved by using less...only one pump.

Okay, hope this helps a little!  Have a great day!

I've been an artist for about ten years. Five of those I was a MAC artist. My kit is full of different foundations. I'm tired of carrying an entire MAC store to photo shoots. I'm not getting what I want out of any of them. I'm looking for one type of foundation, possibly in a pallette, that looks great on print and film, and is reasonable priced. Should I try Cinema Secrets? Any suggestions, please.

Totally same boat as you last year.  Been a mua for years (4 of which with MAC) and just tired of the look I was getting in photos.  I switched to Cinema Secrets and also through in a little airbrush every now and again using Temptu products and it's changed my life.  Definitely get the pallete version of Cinema Secrects.  Makes life so easy!  Oh and Mary's online store is awesome for a mix bag of pro goodies and accessories.  :-)  http://www.camerareadycosmetics.com

This goes too pink on a lot of skintones, and they lack foundation colors with a good yellow, gold undertone...there's totally better foundation out there.

Sorry, I couldn't leave without adding one more thing....

I use a Japonesque pallette and fill it with RCMA, Cinema Secrets, Joe Blasco, Gerda Spillman, Bobbi Brown, Benefit, Shu Uemura.  Not one line has a perfect foundation for every skin type and color.  That's a great way to cut down on extra weight and space in your kit.

Good idea. smile

I mostly use RCMA pallets, Cinema Secrets (have used a few of the individual pans, but not the pallets yet) & MUFE (liquid foundation and corrector concealer pallets). I'm not overly impressed with the MUFE corrector pallets, as they seem a little to dry to me. I like the Cinema Secrets a lot better. The MUFE foundation is wonderful and it's what I use on myself (for shoots). I like to keep a few bottles on hand at the studio. But, to carry a bunch of bottles around doesn't make any sense to me. So, I stick primarily with the pallets.

Side question: does anyone know if the MUFE liquid foundation can be thinned and run through an airbrush? (Sorry, don't want to hijack the thread or anything.) wink

Good to hear. I need to place an order, but can't do it until early next month. Do you think you'll still have them in Mary?

I am new to Model Mayhem.  I hope this is okay to ask here.  The last shoot I had the photographer later complained that my skin was orange-y.  I have wasted so much money trying to find the right foundation and by this shoot I thought I found the right one.  I am freckled, and my skin gets very oily.  I have dark circles around my eyes and being well rested doesn't improve them.  Often the corners of my eyes look like I dabbed blue shadow on them.  I also have large pores on my nose, and I've tried many treatments.  I've not used products that cost over 80.00 because they always seem to go to waste.  I am a full time student and don't want to keep trying different products that are costly just to end up throwing them away.  Does anyone have any suggestions for my skin type in specific?  I've read these threads but they are referring to all skin types in general.  There is so much information to absorb.
I'm very interested in meeting/talking with a MUA for suggestions.  I'm willing to pay for good advice if that is the only way about getting it.  In no way do I want to offend by asking for tips here.  I'm new and still trying to figure out how everything works.  Any advice will be appreciated!

I'm not a MUA, but I think Dior has the best concealer for dark eye circles...  I can't remember the name of it, but it is this little stick and you twist the bottom and the concealer comes out into the brush on the end

i'm a big fan of Temptu concealer wheel.  Also, the Cinema Secrets concealer palette is killer as well.  You can find them at Mary's store www.camerareadycosmetics.com.  you can ask them any questions you have in the customer service email - they're highly knowledgeable and very helpful.

I love RCMA and the armani foundation, i think 5.5 is a great color to start your kit with, it goes on a vast majority of people and the finish is amazing! a little bit pricey though but well worth it when you want to show off your best work!
