The LIST presents~ "Newbie Model of the Week"
heres Rebecca #389622 Jan 25 09 03:42 pm Link Presenting Sandi model #783118 complete pleasure to work with, follows direction well and is just beautiful! Jan 25 09 03:47 pm Link Branii, MM#630849, is definitely a natural. She takes direction well, is exciting, intelligent and serious about modeling. I photographed her here modeling Rene France Designs clothing. We were outside in 31 degree weather in Washington, DC. Although you wouldn't know it looking at her! Jan 25 09 03:54 pm Link Allow me to introduce all of you to Tara (MM# 874845). She is tall, very patient, and definitely creative. She has an acting background (and I believe still acts). This Coloradoan is definitely worth working with. Jan 25 09 06:18 pm Link Newbie entry January 25 2009 Model: Kent Leung MM # 856144 Photos by Nina Pak MM# 197077 Jan 25 09 10:19 pm Link My entry for this week Courtney_Lynn #679139 Jan 26 09 01:25 am Link Excuse me while I take a bit of space to let you all know how I decide which model gets my vote as newbie model of the week. This is just how I decide which model to vote for and may not be how the other Top Drawer Photographers make their choice. I look at each and every entry. I look at them like a client will and like I'm a potential employer. Trust me attitude shows in a portfolio. I hope to see someone that people will want to work with. First I read what the model says about themselves in their portfolio. I hope to read things that are positive and show a good work attitude. If I rear a bunch of I won't do this, I won't do that and youâre a pervert if you ask me to do that. I likely won't vote for you. You can say I'm not interested in doing nudes. Just keep it short simple and with no commentary on those that do shoot nudes. Another thing that will get you a no vote is telling me your bringing an escort. I'm not anti escort and I don't mind if a model brings and escort. Just ask and I'll say it is okay. Putting it in your portfolio gets back to that negative attitude thing. Telling the world of future employers up front you don't trust them isn't doing you any good. When I start reading a bunch of rules I start thinking this person will be hard to work with so it is "next" and I move on. Putting in you want all the raw files from the shoot on a CD at the end of the shoot is another instant turn off. Again I'm feeling negativity here. Putting an age in like 108, weight 10 lbs and 1' tall is also going to put you out of the running. Clients and photographers need honest and accurate information here. Why would anyone waste their time with that type of inaccurate information. Most are just going to say "next" and move on. Next I look at your status: age, weight, measurements ... etc. I compare these to the type of modeling you want to do. If your size and build all say glamour but you say you want to work in fashion and be seen the runway then maybe I'm moving on to the a model that knows where their look works and where it doesn't. Now I start looking at the photos in portfolio. Youâre a newbie so I'm not looking for killer professional photos. I'm looking to see if your look match with your goals. I'm looking to see if you can pull off more than one expression. I'm not wanting to see photos of your kids, pets or significant other. I want to see a model trying to show me something beyond a good body or pretty face. I'm hoping to see a personality that or emotion that comes through the image. To sum it up, keep your portfolios positive, keep it honest, show us a willingness to work, show you are not one dimensional and you may get my vote. Ok that was my ramble for the day. Jan 26 09 06:22 am Link Thank you Bill, maybe this should be on the page as a constant, I think it would be very helpful for all models to read, especially Newbies. Very well outlined. Best, Nina Pak Jan 26 09 09:24 am Link Bill, great "ramble" as you called it. For models that really are serious about advancing in the industry, it is ramblings such as this, that make MM a very great tool to advance that career. Very well stated! Jan 26 09 09:31 am Link GL to all the newbie models.. another tough week to pick from... Jan 26 09 03:39 pm Link Brittany is one of Louisville's finest, most outgoing models..With some great ideas of her own! Jan 26 09 11:17 pm Link CONGRATULATIONS to our winner this week Lily Shopteau # 745791 our 56th Newbie Model of the WEEK Jan. 27, 2009 ~!! Model-Lily Shopteau Photographer-Imageri by Tim Davis ___________________________________________________ PRESENTED By The LIST ~ a list of veteran photographers dedicated to helping "new" models build their portfolios. Jan 27 09 03:38 am Link I know that this isn't the place for editorializing but this must be the week for it (I'm going to post this in The LIST thread as well): I wanted to post this the minute I saw Tim's nomination of Lily this week but held off until voting ended for obvious reasons ... This contest is about the models and that is as it should be. The LIST program is about photographers helping models and I would like to give Tim a public attaboy for his presentation of this week's winner. While I always try to "look past" the photographer's work when voting, it is always refreshing to see someone who is ready to see what a new model needs for their book and is willing and able to make that happen. Tim's shoot with Lily did exactly that - they produced a range of images that showed personality, physical attributes and shows her suitability for several mainstream genre of modeling. Kudos to you both and Tim, thanks for giving Lily exactly what she needed! Jan 27 09 04:54 am Link Lily and I wish to thank you for voting Lily Newbie Model of the week. She is a fresh breath of air in the modeling business. She is smart and witty and most of what you see in the images is what she naturally brings to the table each shoot. No need to guide her, it just happens naturally. Once again Lily and I wish to thank everyone. It is an honor. Jan 27 09 06:16 am Link I'd like to resubmit Caty K, MM #811144 for your consideration this week. She is one of the most versatile newcomers I've encountered, and an absolute delight to work with! It was very difficult to pick five representative shots from the two shoots we've done; I could have easily submitted twenty. None of these images have been retouched. Thanks for your consideration!
