I'm in the DC area, and would love to meet and assist veteran makeup artists here, in Philadelphia, or in NYC.

I am meticulous, take directions well, and always work with a smile smile
I love hands-on learning and constructive criticism.

Hello everyone.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

I'm in California and I need lots of mentoring. I like my work, but then I see all of you wonderful MUA and want so bad to gain those wonderful skills and knowledge as well as how to's.

I see that many MUA's have makeup ports where the closeups on the makeup and face are impeccably beautiful.  How do I capture that?  Do I need better photographers also?

Need Help!?

I'm just wondering if there is a certain criteria to become a mentor, cuz it seems like anyone who says "I'm experienced" can become one. (?)

Hi Samantha

Thank you for your comment. To a degree you are correct in your assumption as it is impossible to background check mentors to prove one way or another. It is a far from perfect system, but it is better than no mentoring program at all.

Hi everyone. I am brand spanking new in the world of makeup artistry. I have made a living as a digital retoucher for years and have decided to get away from the mouse for a bit and to work with people instead. :-) I live in Washington, IL and would love to find out if there is anyone in my area who would be willing to work with me. I am currently looking at enrolling in several courses to further my skills and knowledge but there is nothing like practical hands on experience to really get your feet wet.

I am first and foremost an artist and see this new opportunity as way of making women of every shape and size walking works of art. I would appreciate any assistance in this pursuit of mine.

Thanks so much for your time.

Von & Becka:  Your best bet is to check the first page and see who the mentors are in your area, look at their portfolios, and contact via PM those who do the kind of work that interests you. Good luck! smile

Thanks I appreciate you getting back with me. Another quick question for the board. What are your thoughts in general of paying for online correspondence courses for further training in the field? I live in a very small town and there are no schools that specifically focus on Makeup Artistry. I would have to pay over 10k to attend a cosmotology school and my only desire is to work with makeup not hair or skin. Since I am very visual my thoughts where to take some correspondence courses and have friends be my guinee pigs so to speak as I am learning the techniques.

Becka, I'm not sure if you are near Chicago, but The Makeup show will be there in June, lots of educational opportunities there. Also, Candace Corey https://www.modelmayhem.com/3856 is an artist based in Chicago who does workshops, so you might want to look into those. Other than that, you could look for MM member MUA's who are in your area, check their portfolios for the type of work you aspire to do and see if someone is able to do some one on one lessons with you.

The mentor probably isn't using MM as much as they used to, but it doesn't mean that they won't answer you when they return. Not ideal, I know!

In the mean time, if you just want to ask questions? You can message any of the mentors, in any area. Most would be happy to help you out, anyway that they can.

NOTE TO EVERYONE

As you can see almost all of the mentor list has disappeared. This is due to the upgrade that MM has just completed which has resulted in some glitches.

Please be patient whilst MM tries to sort out these problems.

PLEASE DO NOT ADD ANY OFFERS TO MENTOR, OR REQUESTS FOR MENTORING UNTIL THE ISSUE IS RESOLVED - THANKS

Peter
