So today i shot something totally different, and that was this "Dear John" letter I've always wanted to do.

It is in my portfolio, it does have some language to it (on the mirror) but the concept was to write something to your ex so he/she would get the point that you are thru with his/her ass forever.

Model was ALYCE JERRAD (MM #891670) -- she was at the meet an greet.. did you even say hi to this gorgeous model?

"I was in a sandstorm and survived!!!"

Well we had a thread dating back all the way from late Feb, but some mishaps and within days a new thread was made via the MAIN MAN as our guest of honor...

I have sent over 300 emails from Feb to early April hitting up models more, cause as a photographer, we always cant relay on some of them, as they get promotional gigs that tend to come up on short notice or the emails just go as "read" with no replies to the original emailer (which was me)

This was MY 3rd Meet and Greet (I served "central las vegas", "summerlin", and "east las vegas" all within the last 8 months.  North Las Vegas is next, if everthing lines up.

The Meet and Greet took about 1 hr or real netoworking and I was really dissapointed alot of people didnt stay for lunch. That was the main purpose of the restraunt to use food to bring us together as a group.

But once the cards got passed out, people vanished like roaches with the lights on...

As far the next one, I am debating if i wanna do it, and heres why:

Part 1 - Its alot of wasted emails to models to ask them to come, with only READ as a result and NO REPLIES back to confirm. If you compare my outgoing mails to the ones who actually came, it would be about 15% of models showed

Part 2 - As for photographers its one big casting call, cause they get to screen out all the models in real time.  Some werent even asking the models for their name or who the last shot with, or even shaking their hands, but just asking them if they have any problems posing NUDE for a future shoot, and then moving on to the next female model who wasnt talking to anyone.

Part 3 - Its hard being a one man show only doing 12 emails a day and waiting for my email count to recycle back to zero.   I did ask "models" to hit up photographers, but I think it was mostly my assoicates dropping TAGS on models pages that got their attention to come.

Part 4 - youd be surpised how pissed off people are to hear its not catered to their daily life/work scheldule  (you book a saturday and they flip out and want you to shift the date to sunday just so they can make it fit their needs)

Part 5  finding a location thats centrally located and yet easily drivable to get to, a well known landmark that people know it by name.  (Olivers House compared to Olive Garden)

Part 5a - finding something within everyones economy budget to eat and its gotta be affordable + 18% gratuity has to be covered.  In the Summerlin M/G i had to come up with a magical $80 from thin air to cover a short changed bill and tip, all on my own as people ate and walked out.

Part 5b - finding a taste bud to cater everyone, some people hate fish, some people hate beef, some people hate mexican food. Believe it or not.. some people HATED the affordable lunch and expected BETTER dishes for under $10

See where im going with this.... If anyone dares to make a Meet and Greet 4... by all means... I dare ya to try and make one by the end of May in North Las Vegas as that would cover all four corners of Las Vegas

~Mike

Uh huh... Damn! Sounds like you had quite a few more problems then this thread had led me to believe. Sorry you had to go through all that. Had a I known about this event, I would gladly have attended, networked and stayed for quite a while.

Yeah my wife tried this years ago and it turned out about the same... Vegas is not the place for meet and greets.  It seems that most of the models want to make money right now and if they don't see dollar signs they tend to just forget about it or not even bother responding... They don't seem to realize that networking helps to make bigger money down the road...

Just to clarify I am not saying every model in vegas is like this but it does seem to be a more popular philosophy than not...

I just don't think all the models and photogs that skipped out/left tabs/bitched and complained for one reason or another, realize the amount of work that Mike and Main Man put into the meet and greet. I can personally say that I am 100% grateful! I met a ton of new contacts and new friends in Mike, Lillie, The Main Man, Harold, and the list goes on. It is just a lot for one or two people to take on and then get bitch slapped with all the problems.

Sooooo....Thanks Again Guys!!

DE Studios, your absolutely right about some of these models here in Vegas and elsewhere.....

Some of the these models dont realize, we as photographers are the ones who make them look good on film, we could spend endless amount of hours on pics that is the BOMB to us, and we see it as a GREAT PIC that will get the model and US noticed. But when a model has a cd-rom of pics from an TFP exchange they always tend to either

A) pick the worse image to make US the photographer look really GWC'ish/lame on ModelMayhem

B) they add color flair, or try their hand in photobucket's "make shift picture editor" and they THINK they are photoshop wizards overnight, cause its cool.. but it looks like a MYSPACE image and they still post it on MM

C) Even if a picture is ok, or decent as is, they tend to forget who took the pic to begin with, and for some reason when it has 30 comments, 11 lists and you need to remind them... uhmmm excuse me... ME OVER HERE.. Credits....helllo?!?!?!?!?

D) Models who have the nerve to cut or crop a photographers logo off the edited pic.... OH LORD, dont get me started.....or what about a edited pic you gave them and they wanna retouh it up even more cause they see something you didnt see in the first place.

I mean these topics have been covered numerous times, so i probably sound like a broken record, but all models know is look thru the casting calls, find the jobs that pay money, BUT they have no idea how to act, or what to do when real photographers who want to work with them prefer making art, and not just seeing them topless or in a bikini. Pay a donation and get someone who cares about their work to make YOU (the model) look great!

-- just my cents here folks about models who are greedy and flakes, and sometime are DUMB for picking the worst images that HELP make them look BAD on film.

katy, people like you are the REAL reason I kept doing these things... because of comments like those is why I enjoy your friendship, and comments like those are the reason why I would be "honored" to hold your reflector or fix the lights, cause you have passion in your eyes and not the all mighty dollar signs!!!

well, I try... I just try to coax, or tell models how I see the vision, and its up to the models to give me their soul, ooopppps.... I mean their eyes for 40 minutes

But I do wanna thank Mike for his help is Photoshop, without him, my images would just be bland and dull with no life.

How do you in refer to God in one sentence and then in the next response curse someone out and call them such derogatory names? I'm confounded at the hypocrisy here. That's not the spirit of God, no matter what "religion" you possibly claim to follow. Think about that for a minute...please.
