I'm still waiting for someone to clue me in as to why? I seriously would like to know. If there is no logical answer, or simply "that's the way it's always been" fine, I would just like to know. Anyone??? PixelPerfectImages wrote: A Photographer's Perspective: I receive many similar requests like this and I would love to come, but I am really curious as to why ONLY photographers must pay? Aren't we all in this together? Don't models and MUA's receive OUR photos for their portfolios? If we (photographers) have to pay, then the models and MUA's should have to pay us to get photos for their portfolios. Do you see where I am coming from? If everyone shared the cost equally it would be fair. Photographer's show up with tens of thousands of dollars in equipment and lighting etc.... we have without a doubt the most time and money invested in our craft, yet we are singled out to have to foot the bill for these photo shoots. If there is something I am missing, please fill me in. I will listen to any reasonable argument. Regards, Dan

Just out of curiosity have you posted this question on other forum event posts? Or did you just decide that this was a good one to pick on? If so you might want to look for your answer there because you will probably not get one here nor will you get an argument. Most of the people going to this have all worked together before so there is a camaraderie between us. If you don't like the way we have things set up don't go. It's that simple.

Also, just a quick note about the value I see photographers receiving from this event... In exchange for a reasonable price; there will be at least 15 models available (including some very experienced ones) to shoot with them who will have their makeup done professionally. In addition, snacks and drinks are provided along with a versatile shooting location. The whole event has been coordinated and organized prior to the photographers showing up. This is also a good idea for photographers just looking for fresh faces and a chance to hone their skill. Overall, this seems like a rather fair deal to me. It truly is an event.

Well if he would have taken the time to look at other event notices instead of wasting 2 forum posts in this one he would have seen that $50 is nothing compared to other events charging photogs up to $300 to attend. But I truly feel that because we are a small group of a specific genre that we are getting picked on by this one person. And I take offense to it.

Okay i was going to do this privately but okay. The reason that there pay for this event is to pay for the space the food the drink and the clean up. When I host an event there's is little to no profit. I want to make sure of the following things. 1) Model safety 2) Photographer satisfaction with location and the MUA's work. 3) The group happiness with the event. 4) The property owners happiness that none of the photographer trying to get a shot step on his cat. (because some don't care) Now you ask why should photographers pay the most general reason is most models are starving and have short spans. The reason you will pay is because your being an ass. A public forum is not the place for the question. If you have a problem, because someone saw your work thought it was worth inviting you. Then email them or email me. Don't try to suck the fun out of a good time because you want don't want to help pay for a location. If you think the talent should pay fine. But you start off by getting some good makeup and taking classes for 3 year and hoping you can get a gig. Or holding still while some ass adjust his camera for 15 minutes for one image. But what ever you don't hit this thread again. I have vampire i don't need a fun sucker.

First of all if you have any question about this event, you should PM to the original poster or event organizer instead of asking on public forum... Answer to your question Daniel, If you have invested tens of thousands of dollars in equipment and lighting etc...than trust me my friend $50 is nothing to work with talented 15 models with professional makeup done at very fine location with some food, some drink, some wine, some tea and a shoot like you will never forget... Also if you think the images of any of the confirmed models of any of the group event will increase the value of your portfolio, just pay the fee to attend that event, if you have some free time and some extra cash...If not well hey it's that time of the year when flower field is blooming in Carlsbad... BtW I'd love to go but I work 9am to 7pm on Saturdays... Have fun all of you... Manny

I have asked this question before in other forums and via PM, but this is the first time anyone has even bothered to reply, so I thank you all for that. ok, responses in order: Stormie, I have posted this same question in other invite threads and received no replies. Thank you for at least replying. Macabri, the same can be said that models are receiving great value by having 15 photographers to work with, and MUA's are receiving great value by having 15 models and 15 photographers etc.... I am not disagreeing that it's a great event, just questioning why one group must foot the bill instead of everyone involved chipping in and making it fair. Stormie, I did read the invite and the info I was seeking wasn't there. I also asked the same question of the person who invited me and didn't get a response until after I reposted the question... then it seemed everyone wanted to jump on me for even raising the question. And I'm not picking on you because of your "group", I'm just asking a question. C Alexander, I can see that all this takes money to set up, but as for models being the only ones starving isn't realistic. Times are tough for everyone. You can call me an ass all you want, it doesn't make me one. I am just asking a reasonable question in a reasonable manner. As far as asking it in a public forum, as I stated above, I asked it of the person who invited me and did not get a timely reply so I asked it in the forum of the people involved. I also question why you would consider models and MUA's "talent" but not photographers? I'm sure there are photographers who are "talent" and not "talent" just as there are models and MUA's who are "talent" and not "talent" as well. Everyone has their contributions to these events I'm sure, Photogs/Models/MUA's, why not share the burden as well as the bounty? I'm not trying to "suck the fun" out of your event, and I have no problem helping pay for putting on an event. I just don't think it's fair to ask only the photogs to pay for it. Seriously people... is it that much of a crime to ask a question? Why not just answer it in a reasonable manner instead of getting all defensive? Obviously I am fairly new to MM, but by no means new to the photography business. I realize this is your event and you can run it any way you want to, and I am not obliged to attend. I just didn't think it was going to cause this much fuss by asking a question. At some time in the future I may actually attend one of these, because they really do look like fun, but for the time being I'll just stick to one-on-one sessions. Anyways... I am sure you will all have a good time. Dan
