THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT 120 FILM WAS! And you need to replace your memory card once it's full... and 50d's take sd cards... and I needed $800 gitzo legs to hold my T2i... and VC works well with moving subjects at 1/10sec... and adapting manual focus lenses to DSLRs was useless cause "lenses back then were bad, the new 24-70L II is great!" ... and "what's a camera cage? ... and ... and... and...

Amen. The German guy who owns B&C is pretty knowledgeable but everyone else there barely knows the difference between a camera and car.

But the worst is when you go into the funeral home otherwise known as Caseys. Wow that place is depressing. I went in there the other day as my flash bracket broke and I needed a quick replacement for a gig. I walk in and the old geezers who run the joint point me to the whopping TWO that they carry. The first words out of their mouth was, "We used to carry more but we can't compete with those jerks on that there Internet." So I said, "OK, so how come YOU guys don't sell on the Internet? Remember, Samy's, Beach Camera, Adorama, B&H...all of them just started as local camera shops before they started their big-time operations online and there's still plenty of room for others." The guy just looked at me like I was speaking Martian. Pathetic.

I like him. Can't remember his name anymore though. I haven't been in there a while but have never had problems with them. It might be a case of not letting them bullshit me.

I try to buy stuff from them but they usually either don't have it or they want double what the street price is. I still try but I only try when I'm in the area anyway.

I never run into issues with them trying to BS me, it's just that other than the owner, they just are not knowledgeable people on photography any more than one of those high-school kids in yellow shirts are at Best Buy.

They're really out of the way for me but when I'm in the area or when I need something that Sahara or B&C doesn't have I go there. The problem is, every time I go there the inventory is less than the last time I was there. Based on their attitude and dwindling business, I'd be shocked if they were still around by the end of 2013.

I thought Sahara Camera Center was out of business? I haven't been there in years. Talk about idiots!

I really like shooting the breeze with the guys at Casey's.

For me personally- absolutely. Its not just  " 100 " bucks, thats 100 for every hour Im taking there photos.
Im a budget Photog. I dont charge 200 an hour or something . LOL
I dont charge alot for my photos , and I take a pride in that actually .
I if Im paying 100 an hour for just a permit, this will indeed hurt me greatly. Im going to have to re- adjust some costs if Im going to make it here . I know of a business owner here that told me pays enough permits to pay that Rangers wages per year. He obviously is doing well  with work here. LOL

btw... I AM a business and have been for 5 1/2 years . Ive shot everything from Commercial Buisness to Dirst sport racing/Media . Ive been in LV for a total of 3 months . Work is going to take me some time here to get where I used to be prior to my move. Thank God I have filler in the Motosport Industry .

I just wanted to share my experience so that no one else has this happen to them .

I love that "funeral home" since old guys DO work there. No where else in town you can go to and talk film. Try to talk about a 4x5 or say RB over at B&C, you will get looks like you have 3 heads, all with pancakes in them.

B&C is just a better stocked Wolf camera. Oh wait, Wolf camera had smarter people working there than B&C has...

As far as "talking shop", I completely agree. The old geezers at Caseys are great. It just gets so depressing sometimes though when they keep lamenting on how bad business is.

As for Wolf Camera? Yep, I shudder to just think about how bad that place was. Ugh

I used to shop there quite a bit years ago when I lived in Phoenix. If all you need is common items and don't need answers, it works. Kind of like B&C now.

...and in other news, I shot a roll of that overheated Walgreen’s film from last summer in a new (to me) camera. I just wanted to see how well it worked. The shutter obviously worked I saw, but the on camera flash is always on. Looking at the negs, I see that about 10-12' is the sweet spot for the flash and it shoots about 1 over. I scanned them and I'll call it art for now. big_smile

I took the test roll over to the local Walgreen's for a $3.99 developing job. I might have to upgrade my opinion of Carl Hinkle. big_smile

Speaking of that old Walgreens crap film, do you have a couple extra rolls you don't want?  I need to sacrifice a couple rolls practicing spooling.

Oh my Fiji dark box came in today and the 35 & 120 loading guides are still in it! WOOT!

I also can't fine my film picker. sad

As far as I know, they're still around. They just don't have their store on East Sahara anymore, Now they are at Rancho/Sahara behind the Macaroni Grill. The place is real small and they have some OK deals on things once in a while but their selection of things is pretty slim.

Agreed. I actually bought some gels there a few months ago when nobody else in town had them. Once in a while you'd get some cook finds in there but god forbid you ever needed anything wild and crazy like a lens. smile

Let the face stabbing begin.

I have 32 packages coming to me from various locations over the next couple weeks.

The post office wont deliver anything to my apartment complex that won't fit in my individual mailbox, cause the apt complex won't allow them to use the parcel boxes.

So... Fifteen trips to the post office... An hour each visit... Cause my apartment complex managers are fuckheads.

That's why I have a box at a UPS store by my house. It's worth the $15/month to have a business entity address that's not my home and when I need packages delivered, they go there.

Yeah, a box is #1 on my list. UPS store boxes are a "physical address" yeah? Moreso than a po box? 1234 some street #123 so it's more useable than po box?

Yup, plus they take all shipping companies. You can also drop stuff off and they will do it all for you when you need to ship stuff.

I came across this ad on CL today that was a bit interesting. I'd post it here but it's already been flagged off. Basically they were looking for a photographer to do a TFP shoot for a "high profile" person. Out of curiosity I emailed them and asked who it was. The person's "Assistant and PR Agent" got back to me to tell me that it was the famous "Miss Las Vegas USA Pageant winner for 2013".

I wrote back and asked if it was the actual Miss Universe contestant for the US and she said no, this was just the Las Vegas winner. She still has to go on to compete to with Miss Nevada and then win Miss USA. So this "high profile" person was basically another MM user. LOL  Classic.
