Hi Everyone,

I tried to search this in the forum search and had no luck...

I am a fine art model, so I do lots of nude shoots. I know that my tan lines dont matter when I pose for classes... but what about photoshoots?

I'm not interested in using tanning beds because it won't come out even the way I would need it too and because I get extrememly tan fast... I dont even have to try. Thus, if I use tanning beds to cover tan lines, Ill just get darker and darker and not evenly.

Does anyone know about mystic tans or what I should do???

Thanks smile

I don't shoot models with tan lines, and I know I'm not the only one. I really don't know a solution except for stay away from UV at all cost.

Use Bullfrog SPF 50 on the darker areas so the lighter areas can catch up.

Buy one of those tan-through suits, or stay out of the sun.

Tan lines are something to be avoided if you want to do modeling and offer a wide range of looks.  The cost of post-production editing for tan lines is enough to make a client hire someone with no tan or an all-over tan over someone who has tan lines.

+1... you have to either speed up or slow down one area or the other.

personally, I dig tanlines on nude models... but then again, I think girls with braces are sexy. *lol*

From my experience, most fine art photographers do not want tan lines, unless a specific project calls for it.  The only thing I can suggest is stay out of the sun, unless you are able to tan in the nude.  In the instances that I could not avoid tan lines, I have been able to take care of the problem (if the tan lines were light, and this works best on naturally olive and slightly darker skin tones!), with a Neutrogena self-tanner (this one is AWESOME, and you will not have streaks, pumpkin look, or orange hands), and I was able to even everything up.  Staying out of the sun, when you can't be naked, is your best bet, though wink

I'll search those bathing suits... because sun block at any spf isn't going to work, I've tried that.

I litterally tan in 15minutes of being in the sun, its so sensitive. By the time summer is over, I am 20 shades darker without even trying. It use to be a blessing, now it is a downfall!

from what I've heard... the 'tan through' suits aren't very effective. - although, in your situation... it would definitely be worth a try.

Get the smallest suit you can legally wear and then move the ties and the solid bits around to get as much sun as possible. Past that, I remember from years ago using same kind of make-up to tone the white bits. I don't mind some tan lines, but when the model has a dark tan overall with pure white bits, I do find that extremely distracting. As one other person said, use a extreme sunblock on the already tanned skin and work on getting as much sun as possible on the rest. Also, if you can get to a semi-secluded beach during week days before school lets out, you may be able to do some discreet nude sunbathing.
Best of luck,

Tommy

basically, what I'm saying is.... If I go out in a bathing suit for less than an hour, I have stark lines already. I get soooo tan so fast that I always try to reduce it every summer and in the end it still is never enough. It's practically uncontrollable.

I wear hats and bandeau tops and brazillian bottons to help. But sunblock won 't do anything for me, I dont even burn.

I wouldn't want to shoot a model with obvious tan lines.  I've seen some mild ones that aren't too distracting.

With a tan through suit AND sunscreen you should be able to minimize the lines. A tanning bed would really even things out.

I'm not a sun worshiper, all my family has the same problem. It's my pacific islander skin! like I said, 15 minutes in the sun and I'm instantly darker. I dont layoout ever. I do however like to swim in the ocean.

I will try to these suggestions and get back to yall on it.

I believe it always has been a nude beach.  One way to check would be to go visit the place.

Otherwise, PM me and I can give you more info on other sites.

Tanning beds DO NOT even out tan lines, especially if the already tanned areas are much darker than the non-tanned areas!

I got one from Victoria's Secret...I ordered it through the website, since they have more of their swimwear there....however, I have to say that I was not overly impressed with it.  I actually wore it during a shoot, and within 20 minutes, I noticed that I was already getting lines from the strings and wierd lines where the seams were.

What is the problem with the mystic tans? is it that u become orange or that it shows up funny on camera?

re:tan lines...living in Florida I had tons of nudes with tan lines. Other than personal satisfaction I can't really use the images even to exhibit because when I have in the past (earlier version of me) people would say, "great shots-I thought models were either supposed to be tanned or untanned?"
Try to figure something that can help you and others get through the tan-line dilemma; I seem to remember a few years ago there was bathing attire that advertised the suits let 80% of the UV through- which I suppose then you are faced with another dilemma- how much UV should I punish myself with today?
Good Luck with it...

I have tons of nude pics in my port with tan lines. Not to say it's ok, I'm not the one editing them. Some people care, some don't.

I moved to Europe after living in Hawaii for the last 3 years. Now I'm all pale and white. I hate it, and I don't do tanning beds.

Tanning beds make people look orange, and the only time it's ok to be orange....is if you're an Oompa Loompa.
