Charlotte for Vogue Italia

Vogue Italia is my favorite Vogue for many reasons, but one of them is definitely that they are not scared to use a plus size model every now and then (the same can not be said about other Vogue's...)

Size shouldn't matter, a model is a coathanger for clothes. If they look good then whats the big deal?

not really what this thread is about, but you do have a point.
I did not start this thread to discuss whether or not plus size models should have a place in this industry, but just to show other (plus size) models some inspirational pictures (originally, also to show that there are plenty of succesful working models besides crystal renn)

there are several reasons why designers use standard sizes for their clothes and don't use plus size models. Personally, I think that a lot of the clothes out there would also look great on plus size models, but designers can do what they want smile

The best is when they say it's societies fault, LOL!

Consumers don't want to see plus sized women, that's why they don't use them as much...

You totally missed what I said.

How'd you do that? Lol.

When you speak to a company and that's a response they say, I know it's just because they choose who they WANT to wear the clothes. Don't blame the consumer. We just want to see someone attractive who can fit the clothes.

okay now I'm just confused.

I said in my first post there that I think designers are free to choose what kind of models they want. you said consumers don't want to see plus size models. so how did it get mixed up? or did I just misunderstood you somewhere?

Don't say WE get to says who is used in campaigns when it's obvious we don't.

This is a 50 and over shopping website, look at this model...Where are the slightly or very silver haired women?

Lolz...

What seems to confuse you.

A company blames SOCIETY AS A WHOLE, consumers don't want to see wrinkles, or women over size 6.

They are lying or are fluffing the blame of whey THEY want to use on society, that's not right.

Is that any easier?

good thread. smile

although I usually take pictures of ordinary people I meet on the street (who never live up to standards a large part off the industry wants us to believe is the 'ideal')
I've never worked with an actual plus sized model before...

after seeing all the beautyfull pictures here i wonder why ?

maybe it's because they are really well suited for glamour shots with all the lovely curves...

and maybe I'm doubtfull in my own skills and weather I could pull this off as this isn't really my thing... yes it's silly...

anyways they bring something new and refreshing and deserve all the attention they got coming to them... as it has been overdue...

All of the models posted are stunning. Being a child of the sixties, we are responsible for the slimmed down look of most of today's models. Since the advent of "Twiggy" media seems to have a preference for the slender look.
Great look, but I think there is also a place for curvacious, voluptuous models and the posted images confirm that.
Should be more of it!!

How big is a plus size model on average... How are they classified??? Is it by dress size or cup size...l cause some of them have the figure that most women would like to have... when is the line drawn that a model is plus size???

in theory, plus size modelling starts around 6-8 (in other words, where regular size modelling ends) and goes up to an infinite size. In reality, plus size models are between a 10-12 and a 16-18. different markets like different sizes.

there are other requirements too:
*height, again, in theory, 5'7-5'8 is the minimum height. In reality, you will find that a lot of plus size models are taller than that, usually around 5'11. This ofcourse makes them carry the size better too (a 6'0 size 12 is not the same as a 5'7 size 12)

*body: they need to be in proportion, are often very toned, with long legs, good skin and a nice smile (very important). which are standard modelrequirements, I think. most of them are hourglass bodies and it's definitely a plus, but I know plus size models who have more of a "boyish" up-and-down figure, so it's definitely possible. their faces are often classically beautiful yet interesting at the same time

*boobs: usually a C cup is a minimum. most plus size models are between C and E-F. this may look big, but compared to their body it's often just in proportion.

their is a misconception that plus size models are fat. they are not. I'm not going to lie: some of them are. Me, for instance smile. I'm 6'1 and a size 16 and I work out a lot and I'm healthy, but my body still needs a lot of work. But plenty of other plus size models just have "normal" bodies (not implying in any way that straightsized bodies aren't normal)

here are some polaroids for you, from both bigger and smaller plus size models

I really like the outfit, but this is the only picture that makes me think that they photoshopped her body... her hips look so slim compared to how her hips look in the other pictures. Maybe it's just me, or maybe it's just a super flattering outfit smile. anyways, I love the purple stockings with that graphic black and white dress!

my opinion: although I think Robyn is absolutely stunning and I applaud Elle for doing this, I don't know what to think of the editorial. It doesn't come across as a consistent series to me, and the styling is quite commercial sometimes. especially for Elle, who has some amazing fashion series from time to time, and because the cover was so strong, I was expecting a little bit more I think.

Nonetheless I am super happy and proud for this series, and I think Robyn did an awesome job! it's sold out EVERYWHERE here, I'm happy that I found the pictures online.

what do you think?

I love the spread, but I do agree with you, Marianne. It doesn't come off as entirely fashion as Elle normally displays. It's a bit more commercial than usual, which I'm not really bothered by either. It's still a beautiful, beautiful editorial! And exciting to have a plus model grace the cover!

My only real big qualm with it though, is the 'shopping job they did of Robyn's body and especially in the last shot you posted of Robyn in the turquoise crop-top and pink DKNY bottoms - they cut off part of her torso! Her tummy leads into her right boobie!
