Been looking at both KEH and EBay

Looks like you can legitimately get a BRAND NEW D3 In the box for $2,200

And apparently if you catch it right, you can get a Good used one for $1,500

I knew the price had dropped, but I'm surprised it is that low

What are you going to get to shoot vid?

DAMN YOU O'MEARA!!!!

I had a shoot set for tonight
Is it going to happen?
Oh no...

Why?

Cause O'Meara broke my model!!

She's calling me up pleading with me to put the shoot off a week

Apparently O'Meara drug her out into the weeds of Fort Desoto and she is LITERALLY covered with mosquito bites from head to toe

To the point that she cant stop itching, and thinks they will make her look "Hideous"

So I've been bumped a week

*Sarcastic voice....Thanks Chris...

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, sorry Carl but this is kinda funny.  As much as I would hate a cancelation, this one is interesting!

yeah holy snap thats a good deal smile

i dont know if i want a hybrid dslr to do both still and vid or i'm going to maintain my separation.  For what i do the togetherness will make things easier,  but i just prefer items of specialization over swiss army knife typed products sad

Something to keep in mind is even filmmakers have been using the likes of 5d's to make their films. House used them for half of their last season. Might consider renting one to help make up your mind

One of the issues with using the DSLRs is the autofocus (or lack thereof) in video mode. The pros that are using them are usually pretty skilled at balancing zoom and manual focus on the fly.

true.... and i feature a distinct degree of laziness of camera operation when shooting as i tend to have to tripod it and run around behind the scenes grabbing props and stuff sad

however maybe i could convince the girls to stay relatively in the same radius while i step away...... errr maybe not lol

If memory serves me correct, the newer Nikons have AF for their video.. Canon has seemingly stuck with the way the pros do it while Nikon has offered a system more geared to the amateur video person..  Nothing wrong with that, just different philosophies and I think you said you were looking at Nikon anyway..

Hard for the salesperson to step aside sometimes.. LOL!!!  And actually, I'd love it if Canon gave the choice of AF or full manual on their video.. I understand they want to keep it highbrow, but the average person isn't going to spend what it takes to do it properly or sadly, take the time to learn manual focusing of video..

yea i started with nikon film and then went to nikon digital.  i just prefer their button setup and menu navigation and am too stubborn to relearn all that stuff lol

yeah ive always been a fan of options.   plus i'm paying a fortune for studio time, model time, props, etc.  and i'm not risking my wallet on my visual impairment to end up with crap ass video sad

So, I used to use rechargeable batteries in my SB800 flash.  Then sometimes the batteries would die but look like they charged just fine but in reality they were permanently dead etc...so I went back to normal AA batteries.  If you go to the wrong place they can be wicked expensive!  Home Depot has them priced well on a consistent basis and I just picked up a 36 pack of Energizer for $13.98!  That's pretty darn good.

Not sure about the Largo show that KEH will be at, but typically they don't sell they only buy.. Main reason they don't sell, they haven't tested the shit yet.. LOL!!

Now, and I have seen this happen, if you see someone with something you like, see if they will make a deal with you... Have them find out what KEH is going to offer and then offer them 10-20% up... Thing is, most likely KEH will be paying in cash.. Cash is king..

Greg...for rechargeables, the Eneloops are a must!
http://www.amazon.com/Sanyo-eneloop-gen … eneloop+aa

But only use the Sanyo or La Crosse chargers with them.

Do you use these with your flashguns(if applicable)?and how long do they last (ie,can I get through a normal sunset type shoot, figure 175 shots)?

I use 5 AA batteries in my SB800 and can get a solid 100-125 full power shots with fresh batteries.  So to make it to 175 shots I would swap batteries after 100 shots.  Aren't you a Canon shooter?...results may vary...and not sure if your flash accepts 4 batteries or 5 like mine can which would make a difference.  Also depends on if the flash is firing at full power each time.

No problem at all...they can sit in your bag for a month and still get that...well worth the couple extra dollars.

I'm clearly having a fun conversation with myself in here.

Anyway, I just got the message... SHE'S SICK with either food poisoning or a stomach virus.  I hope she feels better.

It looks like I will be sleeping in when the weather looks perfect for a sunrise beach shoot.  If it's too good to be true... LOL

Well, food poisoning would be out of her system by morning.. Stomach virus possible not... I'm going with she really didn't want to get up early.. And I can't say I blame her.. smile

But if you combined this with all of the other Tampa M&G Chit Chat threads you would be over 50k I'm pretty sure.  Back in the day, this thread wasn't even in Off Topic.  It was under events...little bit of trivia.  But "they" did not like that most of what was discussed was not event related so they moved us.  This of course might be trivia for some but probably not for you Frank since you were around back then...before me.  smile

I use exclusively Energizer rechargeables in my Yongnuo speedlights. I consistently get 250-300 shots on one charged set of four. I always carry two charged sets, plus an emergency set of Duracell AAs, but have never had to use them. Love me some rechargeables.
