Agency Model Management NYC
I was just scouted but has anyone heard of Agency Model Management in NYC? Not much on the web that I can find so any information would be great! Id like to know if they're worth checking out or how their rep. is in the modeling world. I was not asked for any fees, just to find my own living arrangements in NYC since they don't have "model apartments". The scout told me they would set me up with test shoots, get my card created, and start submitting me to clients. Sounds good but I just want to make sure it isnt too good to be true. www.agencymodelsnyc.com Dec 01 11 09:18 pm Link I looked at their website..., to me... they seem to be reasonable... and have a nice, clean selection of models. But I don't have experience with them, and it doesn't say anything about the involved people. However, although a relative start up... (one year old) there is the good chance that they have individual experience in the industry... it kinda shows on the type of models they were posting. So... I don't know them... but, as you know, there are no guarantees. Sincerely udor Dec 01 11 10:52 pm Link Never seen that name on a sign-in sheet and I go to a lot of castings ranging from high end beauty/fashion to more commercial stuff. Also, I am not sure about this, but I think someone who asked me before about them, told me they were advertising on Craigslist for models... bad sign. Dec 02 11 06:48 am Link Malin_ wrote: Not necessarily Malin; Dec 02 11 08:57 am Link If there not on Models.com the there not an agency lol Dec 02 11 09:00 am Link udor wrote: Agreed but my main concern was not Craigslist, but rather that I just haven't seen their models anywhere! Not that I go to all castings in NY (I wish) but in the past month I've been on go-sees for Dior, Vuitton, Sally Hansen, Cool Sculpture, Disney, a bunch of showrooms and others, to name a few, and I have never seen this agency's name on any of the sign in sheets. However, I see models from the major agencies and many of the boutiques all the time, so that makes me think this agency doesn't really have a lot of clients/connections. But who knows! Dec 02 11 09:57 am Link Malin_ wrote: That's exactly my point! If you are building a business, you have to start somewhere and you are lacking models and clients... it's all something that has to be built up... and the bigger clients usually go with the well established relationships (agencies) and it takes a while until they notice the start up boutiques... Dec 02 11 10:19 am Link I think it's a legitimate agency, but it's probably new and still building up. Which isn't a bad thing, but you have to consider that age is really important in the modelling scene and you might not have the time to wait until they get big. Dec 02 11 10:49 am Link Thanks for the reply everyone. Yes I saw that they are very new and I am aware that in NY age matters. Who knows if this agency is legitimate and has a real future; I dont want to wait too long since im already 17 and it may be too late. Any ideas on what questions I should ask them since I have been speaking to them often making possible travel plans. Any good questions to help me see what theyre really about would be great! Is it atleast a good sign that they do not request any fees from me? The email states "...we do not charge you any fees. Our only concern is how you intend on coming to the city since you are states away. However it you can make it here we will set you up with a few free tests, have your card made, work on any improvements, and finally get you out to clients." A lot of the boutiques here in New York are not on models.com, and that does not mean they are not real or whatever. As long as they keep you working, who cares? The agency is new and boutique, but definitely legit. Sam and Javier are great people and I trust them. I'm actually repped by the agency as well, but for direct bookings only as I'm focusing on my photography right now. So! Yes, they are new; yes, they are small; but they do get work and they are legit. Sam started the agency after being on board with other larger agencies that were taking advantage of their models. Having been in the industry for a while and knowing it was wrong, she couldn't work with those agencies any more and started her own. I wouldn't ever blow them up to be bigger than they are or imply they're going to "make you a star", but I can vouch for their integrity. As far as the Craigslist thing, it's not that big of a deal. Most agencies would raise their nose at finding their models on MM just like they would CL but sometimes you get lucky, and good scouts leave no stone unturned. Hope this helps, and I wish you the best! Josh www.joshuamccaghren.com Dec 25 11 11:14 pm Link Oh and regarding the Models.com thing, they should be up on the site any time now. They just had their one year anniversary not long ago and expanded to adding a men's board which can stretch a new agency thin, but they are adding to the team to maintain a good focus on everyone. All in all, they're on top of their shiz. Again, I say go for it, because I like them and trust them enough to be with them, too.. but I'm not getting anything for saying it, lol. I spoke with Kelly, one of the scouts and will be flying out to NY on March 9 to stay for a bit to shoot and have my card/book made. Its relieving to hear they are legit. Im excited! Wish me luck! I was offered to be set up with free test shoots to update my book and to have shots for my cards Dec 30 11 11:25 pm Link My oldest daughter has modeled for several years with major agencies and earlier on with the smaller boutique agencies ( a.k.a mother agencies).....the biggest thing to remember is when dealing with small agencies, you keep your options open and always sign as a non-exclusive talent. It also doesn't hurt to request even references from agencies as well. (Before entering any agreement, have a lawyer look over the agreement and if addendum's need to be added, then don't be afraid to add them!) I work professionally in management in the entertainment industry (as well as photography) and have dealt with everyone from top executives to lawyers on deals, and if the deal is worth it, then compromises are common practice. The majors definitely have the advantage over the smaller agencies for higher scale projects with advertisers and established clients, but the smaller agencies as well have an advantage with commercial work for the fortune 500 companies looking for your "NOT SO PERFECT' models that can be used in marketing campaigns to appeal to the everyday person. I know of many major agencies and even some start up companies, but in my honest opinion there are so many avenues in which agencies can scout for talent without going to "Craigslist"!! It's not the norm for serious minded scouts to use that classified system since it already has a bad reputation for illegal criminal activities. **SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT** Many of these scouts for the majors even look at the smaller boutiques boards for fresh talent. (kind of like how baseball uses farm clubs and bring athletes up to the majors who are excelling) Good Luck!! Dec 31 11 12:00 am Link It's a legitimate agency. Aug 25 13 10:27 am Link The website being down, and they cannot be found on Twitter or Tumblr either. Is that a not-so-good indication?
