The quality of images are good and there is a decent variety. I would like to see more beauty work with edge. You obviously are suited well for beauty work and have great features. Try to find a professional beauty photographer who is willing to shoot TF and check their port for images outside of the box. Try not to allow anyone to put you in the 'Asian' box and have you shooting only ethnic shots. Keep at it! (((chace)))

Mary Zdo wrote: Thanks so much for the feedback and the kind words! Which photos would you recommend for me to delete? I got rid of a few recently so hopefully my portfolio is a lot cleaner now. Planning on adding a few new things soon as well. I definitely agree about the hair and makeup. It's always so much more convenient for me to just go to a shoot, get my hair and makeup done, and then do nothing but focus on modeling rather than take out two hours of the day before the shoot to get all that done myself. And I definitely need more hair styles in my portfolio as you said. I'll get on that soon. Mary, My apologies for the delayed reply; my schedule has been super hectic. You're very welcome. I looked through your port again and as I said before, you have huge potential and some great images already. I went through and I think that these are the images which bring the overall feel of your port down: 1,4,13,14,15,20-24...also, I think 6-12 have a great feel and mood but I would just choose one out of the set to display. I think that 10, 12, and 16 are the most solid out of that set. Now, this may seem quite extreme but it's better to have a few quality images than several OK ones. The good part about your port is that you have some great images already. The typical problem with models' books is usually that the great images are degraded by the good ones and the good ones are degraded by the bad ones. When in doubt, thin-it-out. If you post some new images, as I mentioned before, please let me know and I'll give you some feedback. Also, if you decide to take my advice, shoot me a message because I would like to see how it looks. Please feel free to reach out for any other questions that come up as well. Take care. Keep at it! I'm really new to the site and working on building my portfolio. 27 Ann, My apologies for such a delayed reply; my schedule has been hectic. Your port is good, considering that you're new and are building your port. Based on your images, it seems as though you can transition well from editorial(fashion), to commercial, through beauty, and even into lifestyle. Based on your measurements, beauty or lifestyle would seem to fit you best. Editorial perhaps would work as well if you are given the right stylists, set-designers, and photographer(s) to work with. Keep at it and please feel free to let me know when you post new images and I'll follow-up with some feedback. Take care and keep at it! (((chace)))

Elena Antonia Pappas wrote: liked.....27 Elena, My apologies for the delayed reply; my schedule has been super hectic. Thanks for the 'like' and the 27 Your portfolio is good. Most of your images, of course, are swimsuit and are overall of good quality; however, there are some that are not of high enough quality to bolster the images that are. Further, there are too many of the same type of images with regards to: angles, wardrobe, lighting, and mood. Now, this is OK sometimes but I feel that it's best to display and show your book with only the absolute best images that you can. Also, unless you already know that you only want to venture into swimsuit modeling, perhaps a variation of modeling would elevate your portfolio as well and illustrate diversity. Beauty work could work for you as well as certain types of fashion perhaps. I read your bio and understand that you are modeling part-time, but do you already have a focus area that you would like to enter? (((chace)))

Your portfolio, overall, is good. It seems like you have good technique. Now, the question is, how can you join technique and creativity? This marriage can be very involved depending on what level you're working towards. I've worked with hundreds of MUAs and the thing that separates those who are great from those who are good is this marriage that I mentioned. Please excuse me if you're already doing these things and if you're, keep at it... 1)Keep a running file of face-cards that illustrate your creative ideas. This serves two purposes: if someone wants to see your work but you have limited images, you can show them these, and this practice helps refine the marriage that I spoke of before. 2)Build your box-have as many product options available for clients as your budget can afford. 3)Find a good photographer(preferably one who specializes in beauty) and an even better re-toucher if the photog doesn't work hand-in-hand with one already. 4)Shoot, shoot, shoot...however, only display the absolute best images that come from any given shoot. What type of industry, if there is a specific one, are you considering? (((chace)))

You work is fantastic and I'd love to hear what you think. you're welcome to go through all the images, or just look in 'portfolio' folder for my top picks http://www.flickr.com/photos/22517982@N … 916011207/ I was going to skip a comp card but recently been reading that you should never go to an open call without a comp card to leave for them to remember you by. I'd rather be prepared, but it's hard to know what is best. I was definitely going to bring my bathing suit Polaroid's to leave and a book if they ask. A comp card is tough because I don't want to choose the wrong images and ruin it, but I want to look professional and increase my chances of getting noticed. Thanks again so much for your help! Melanie, First, I just want to apologize for such a delayed reply and hopefully this doesn't reach you too late. You have a good portfolio. I see that you had a comp card done, and it's good. You're absolutely correct about being professional during any go-see/client call. This professionalism extends through your comp card into the attire you wear to the go-see, and also through your overall appearance(this includes how your wear your personality). Building a book can be a long and complicated process. Choosing the best images, as you mentioned, isn't always the easiest task. Here are my thoughts: 1)Your comp card is good but it can be better. Try to develop another one that showcases diversity in your modeling style. 2)Get with a professional photographer who is willing to shoot TF and also willing to help build your book. 3)Decide if fashion/editorial modeling is where you want to be...btw, I think you would fit well in these industries. 4)Do your homework-study the industry that you are attempting to enter and practice your posing extensively. I hope this helps and I hope your open-call went well! If you have any more questions at all about modeling, feel free to let me know. Also, The Professional's Guide to Modeling by Roger Talley is a good book to pick-up. There is an older book that I used to recommend to models a long time ago when I shot model portfolios but I can't recall the name right now. Talley's book is a good place to start though. Keep at it! (((chace)))

You seem to have good control of light and overall technique so my main advice would have to do directly with the models themselves. Not all models, even professional ones who are paid well, know how to 'model'. This might seem weird but it's very much the case. So, try to work with your models as best that you can with regards to angles, poses, animation, and shapes. This will serve as a great tool for you in the future because it can change the whole dynamic of the shoot and impact of the final image. Please let me know if you have any other questions at all about anything modeling/photography(business or art). Keep at it! (((chace)))

SHIRA wrote: It would be a pleaure to have you review my portfolio. Your work is astonishing! Thank you in advance. Thanks for your kind words and the fb 'like', it's much appreciated! Your portfolio is good. I always can appreciate variety as I'm sure ad agents do. You transition well from catalogue-type shots to more traditional lifestyle shots; this is a good trait to showcase your versatility in modeling. I really appreciated your bio too. You seem professional and this is vital when working with established clients. I would like to see some beauty shots. You have great eyes that I think would work well with the right team of beauty professionals. The only thing that I would suggest, with regards to your portfolio, is to eliminate some of your duplicate images(images from the same set/shoot) because these sometimes take away from the other pictures. Also, study, study, study...I'm sure you already do this but study the industry that you want to enter. You mentioned high-fashion so dive deep into that world and study how the women/girls 'look' and are 'looking'. This is important. Overall you port, again, was good. Keep at it! MickCetera wrote: You've given me a critique before but I've learned a lot since. How'm I doin? Mick, I looked back at my previous critique and looked at your portfolio again. I'm not sure what you had included before but your portfolio now is good. You do seem to have the potential. It seems like you're collaborating with good photographers because your images are solid. There are steps and levels to everything and real professionals will explain this. The things I mentioned before were very introductory/general observations; so, the next set of critique will be a bit more specific... Try to pay close attention and have awareness around your facial muscles. In addition, be more aware of your body mechanics as they specifically relate to your facial gestures. Put differently, your facial gestures should either compliment or play opposite to your body mechanics(movements). On either end, all of your gestures and movements should be somewhat on-purpose. The more that you look in magazines, study, and mimic the gestures and movements of established models the more progress you will notice in your own work. In some of your images your facial gestures are the same; try to mix-it-up more and offer more variety with both your facial gesturing and body mechanics. All-in-all, your images are good and have room to get much better. Stick with it! Please keep in touch and let me know if you need anything. Thanks for following-up; that shows initiative which is important in this industry. On another note, our marketing agent recently suggested that I create an Instagram account so I did I haven't posted much but will be updating it more often...follow me (www.instagram.com/chace_it).
