Sep 16 12 03:43 pm Link For me, the "Zombie stare" is a little tacky in some of the shots, but others are quite good. Sep 16 12 04:05 pm Link 5 & 7 are tacky, the rest are flippin' awesome. (especially 2 & 6 I love those.) Sep 18 12 05:27 am Link For me, 1 and 2 are nice. #4 is awesome. The rest would end up on the cutting room floor. I would echo the previous comment about the "zombie stare". In fact, I find that a lot of "models" tend to be over-actors, trying to hard to look the part. I get my best intensity when the model completely relaxes her face. Let the pose, makeup, lighting, framing, composition -- the technicals -- let them sell the shot. Don't let your models try to "act". Sep 18 12 06:41 am Link 2 is my fav really niccee Sep 24 12 07:35 am Link I don't find any of them interesting or well done at all. The exposures are good, but the overall affect of the images are stale and dull. I think the makeup is horrible and unflattering to your model and the "concept" is just kind of tired. The compositions are also pretty boring, except for number 2. The model's lack of a convincing expression lowers its impact though. In other words, the model looks posed instead of natural; just like in all the other photos. I also don't like that we're looking up the model's nose in a couple of the shots. Number 1 seems to be out of focus too and the highlights are way too hot, which loses detail in the dress. In #4 the background is too hot as well, to the point of being distracting. #3 has about the best lighting and tones, but the pose, forced glare from the model and silly makeup/dirt ruin it. I'm assuming your avatar is part of this series as well, since it's the same model with the same makeup. If so, it's cropped way too tight and is really not an appealing photo. It also looks blurred around her eyes. All the perfectionism in post won't do a damn bit of good if you can't get it right in the camera first (IMHO). Oct 21 12 10:39 am Link Awesome or tacky is definitely a range. I like the pictures overall. #6 is definitely my favorite. I like the experimentation with angles & really like the dirt makeup/effect. I'd want to see bigger versions of the pix before saying anything else but I'd say overall I really enjoyed them! Oct 21 12 10:52 am Link Most photographers will respond by what they like to shoot...so the question as well as the answers are subjective...I think the set as a whole is awesome...but rolling around in the dirt in an expensive wedding dress is something i would consider cool..and probably something i would do...My favorite are #2 and #6 Oct 21 12 10:54 am Link thanks for the feedback guys. those were just the first shots i ran through lightroom for the model to check out while i was working on the rest, so i'm sure i'll end up swapping out most of them as i pick out better ones or redo the post-processing. Oct 22 12 04:12 pm Link No it's definitely not tacky, and it's not my taste at all, so you're okay on that. I think what is missing is the lighting, or that you need some editing work to make, such as the stare poses more intense. You need to adjust contrast and lighting, stare poses need a lot of "drawing in" composite/frame work. I think bold contrast and hard lighting would really make this... "awesome".
