Painting on people
I'm trying to find a safe product to paint on people with. Basically I'd like to paint with a brush the same way I do with oils on canvas. Obviously I don't want to use anything that could be harmful. I'd like something that blends/ mixes well. It can be thick, I like impasto, but it's not necessary. Additionally I'd appreciate recommendations on brushes and anything else that might be useful like something to remove it with. There are a LOT of cosmetic body paint choices - from liquids to water or alcohol activated pans. The application and blending range is as diverse as paints for canvas. Each kind and brand will have it's own sweet spot. For brush applied and blendability - look to a product like Mehron Paradise. Ben Nye Magicolor is a nice, thicker liquid body paint that can be sponge or brush applied. For super thick, super inexpensive colors, try Palmer's face paint. Crisp line work - you can't go wrong with a sampler like WolfeFX Appetizer Palette. You can use mid-quality paint brushes - my favorite are Simmons or Royal Langnickel. I would advise using NEW, dedicated brushes for bodypaint. You don't want to use non-cosmetic products - there's a real reason the pigment range is restricted for cosmetic grade colors. Look to a site like www.sillyfarm.com for what's popular with Facepainters and Bodypainters. Kryolan too makes makeup in rich colors. All are very different in as much as they are the same. Overall they are easy to learn, especially for experienced artists. Most body and face painters prefer golden talkon or sable brushes. Lowe Cornell La Corneille Golden 7000C series is very popular. You might consider adding a liquid like Kryolan or Mehron ontop of cake makeups like Kryolan Aquacolor or Mehron's Paradise to create tick textures. Tim does Gratton create thick Impasto like textures? Overall, shop around. There is a big group that meets in your area for get together painting jams.
