There is a movie premiere that I want to shoot (actors walking down the red carpet) in a few weeks up in LA.

Do I just show up and shoot or what steps do I need to get permission?
Thanks, Jack

Contact the PR and ask to be added to the list. Chances are spots will be marked and they will only allow shooters on the list to enter the area.

Be ready to answer who you shoot for also. They will want to know who you are, where your shots are going, etc...

If they let everyone who wanted to shoot red carpets in the area it would be chaos.

Oh and LA carpet shooters are not known to be the nicest folks around either.... just saying...

I do quite a bit of red carpets for various media outlets and yeah, you can't just show up and shoot at most of the major red carpets.  You have to be represented by someone.  But yeah, try looking at the press releases and see if there is someone you could offer your services to.  Perhaps even an entertainment blog

Just don't shoot for Retna or Picture Group, you won't see a dime.
