Correct! The album was titled For You

Released April 7, 1978

This is considered his first solo album.

He contributed guitar tracks and helped co-write a song for 94 East but he wasn't successful and at the age of 17 left the band to record solo.

He eventually made a demo with a company called Studio 80.

I could Prince nerd all day. I love Controversy the best out of his early pre megastardom  albums(even though it's sequenced oddly).

Only thing that somewhat caught my ear on "for you" was "Just as long as we're together"

I LOVE PRINCE. Especially that song "Bob George" from his Black album.

I really wish he had decided to release the original version of the Black Album (not the rework he dumped on Warner Brothers to meet contractual obligations in the mid 90's) as epiphany or not...."Lovesexy" was a far weaker record.

I'm not a huge Prince, Maxwell or MJ fan.  Maxwell is too new for me (he hasn't grown on me yet) and most of Prince's songs were too weird for me (not to mention I don't really like screaming, especially from men).  I can deal with MJ, especially the earlier stuff (Bad and before).

As far as musical genius goes ... there are far too many to name, but Stevie Wonder is near the top of my list all the time.

I've always though this song was under rated as far as his mainstream album cuts go:

Graffiti Bridge is a little more a-side for me .. more into the b-side stuff but love it just the same ...  Mavis Staples has crazy vocals on "melody cool" if you can relate to southern soul, gospel music which of course is like the basic foundation to american music as we know it.

Here's a "real" Prince fan question.

What "Prince mp3's / Prince music files do you have on your computer right now?

How many?

I was at his house once in Toronto and he hid behind a staircase when I was there.  I got to use his engineer for this CD I was producing way back in 2006.  The guy was great and stayed with the project (at Metalworks if anyone remembers that place) until Prince did American Idol and things did not go well.   He pulled the guy from our project after that and so ended my memories of Prince.....

BTW, Prince was the youngest EVER to walk away with as much money as he did (Re: His first record label) !

Look, MJ dancing skills blows Prince dance skills away. No contest. Singing wise, it's a draw. Prince vocal range is on that par and to some degree, more versatile. Overall, Prince is more versatile, BUT, MJ, like Prince can put on a show where even Prince will have to admit, MJ takes the show with a larger fan base.

Let's not let favoritism get in the way with facts.

Nah, Prince does not have the same natural range MJ did. MJ sang high tenor whereas Prince sang Falsetto to hit those same notes.

Listen to Baby Be Mine from Thriller.

Prince could not hit those notes with the power MJ did.

MJ, on the other hand, could not play the solo from Computer Blue.....

And still, MJ, blows Prince away in the dance department. I don't care how much Prince makes you scream, cream etc. It is what it is.

Yes, I've listened to Thriller often over the years. You're talking about that one example. But if you take several of Prince's song, his range is more wide compared to MJ. Prince can go from a male vocal to hitting notes as high as a female.

"I want be your lover"

"Damn you."

"Erotic City."

"Purple Rain"

and several are examples.

I love "Eyehateu" The Gold Experience was the best of his 90's work, shame so few people heard it before it went out of print

Just to once again try to avoid this becoming a Prince vs MJ trainwreck they were both genius but in very different ways.

Michael was an interpreter of the highest fucking caliber. He could take ANYTHING and make it am emotionally laden universal piece of pop genius.

"Thriller" was a song about going to see a https://assets.modelmayhem.com/images/smilies/scary.pngmovie.....essentially a novelty record and would have been a throwaway in lesser hands. "Heal The World" has lyrics so maudlin a greeting card writer would'be hung their head in shame. "Ben" was about a rat, for fuck's sake. But Michael would make it polished perfection always  worthy of making you laugh cry or dance as he saw fit.

Prince is a precocious eccentric who  just happened to have some massive pop hits. His natural ability made him have to start pushing all of the boundaries and influences he hadaround and banging out new experiments( with varying degrees of success) just not to be bored.

"Kiss" .....no bass. The god damn thing still packs a dance floor 30 years on AND HAS NO BASS AT ALL. NONE.
"Purple Rain"......the album cut is over 7 minutes long with so many  distinct musical sections and a near orchestral arrangement that it should have drowned in its own bombastic excess. It's all placed so precisely that by the beginning of the second verse you have your lighter up by default.

"When Doves Cry" is one hell of a heavy set of lyrics with an army of multitracked Princes basically hurling accusations in your face, but you don't  notice because of the masterpiece of minimalism backing track daring you not to dance.

Prince is brilliant, but very difficult as most of what he did  was so fucking technical and strange. Some of his best innovations are now R
